Job description
We’re looking for a Data Engineer to build and maintain the data pipelines, models and transformations that power reporting, analytics and integration across a complex delivery programme. You’ll work hands-on with SQL and cloud data platforms, ensuring data is structured, accessible and usable by the wider business.
What you will be doing:
- Building and maintaining data models (logical and physical) used for reporting, analytics and integration.
- Writing and optimising SQL to query, transform and structure data across platforms.
- Designing and implementing data pipelines and transformations, working across cloud-based data platforms.
- Working alongside data architects, analysts and digital teams to ensure data is usable, accessible and aligned to business needs.
- Supporting data quality, security and classification standards as data moves across systems.
- Documenting data lineage, structures and transformation logic for traceability.
- Gathering requirements from stakeholders and translating them into data structures and pipeline components.
- Contributing to continuous improvement of data processes, guidance and documentation.
Requirements
- Around 3-5 years’ experience in a data-related role (e.g. data engineering, data modelling, analytics engineering).
- Strong competence in SQL, plus at least one scripting or data query language (e.g. Python).
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS, Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks or equivalent).
- Experience building or supporting data pipelines, transformations or models used in reporting, analytics or applications.
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
- Experience in a regulated or safety-critical industry (energy, aerospace, nuclear, defence) is desirable but not essential.
