Senior Network Engineer

Experteer Overview In this Senior Network Engineer role, you will deliver Tier 3 support and engineering for the Next Generation Network across DEA offices from an onsite location in Merrifield, VA. You will design, test, and implement network solutions, coordinate with Security, Cloud, Systems, and Applications teams, and produce runbooks and diagrams to sustain security and high availability. You’ll resolve complex incidents, optimize WAN and VPN performance, and contribute to architecture reviews while supporting after-hours operations. This role offers meaningful impact by shaping federal network infrastructure and ensuring secure, reliable connectivity. Compensation / Benefits * Provide Tier 3 engineering and support for design, testing, and implementation of the Next Generation Network across DEA offices * Install, configure, troubleshoot diverse network architectures and devices (including SD-WAN, DMVPN, Layer 2/3, wireless) and manage security measures * Support classified and unclassified environments ensuring continuity, security compliance and high availability * Act as escalation point for complex incidents, outages, and performance issues * Participate in architecture reviews, design sessions, and implementation planning * Collaborate with Security, Cloud, Systems, and Application teams for integrated solutions * Maintain engineering documentation, diagrams, and operational runbooks * Provide after-hours support and maintenance window coverage as required * Support data center operations and optimize network/app performance * Terminate fiber and network cables Tasks * High School with 10+ years of network engineering or equivalent experience * 5+ years of hands-on enterprise network experience * Active Secret Clearance with ability to obtain and hold DEA suitability * Professional certification (e.g., CCNP, CCDP) * Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting varied network architectures * Knowledge of major routing protocols and dynamic routing * Experience with multiple firewalls * Strong background in network administration and architecture * Knowledge of building, developing, and maintaining SD-WAN environments * Familiarity with access control models and network security * Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools * Solid understanding of network operating systems (Aruba, Juniper, Cisco) * Solid understanding of VPN * Strong troubleshooting skills * Fiber and cable termination * Ability to work independently * Designing, writing, and updating system documentation and network diagrams Key requirements *
