Job description

As part of the Java Platform Group, you will work with development, support and quality engineering teams to diagnose and resolve issues across the JDK Core Libraries and Security components. The team is responsible for producing Oracle JDK Update releases, assisting enterprise customers with complex production issues, and contributing fixes and enhancements to the OpenJDK project.

As a team, we are increasingly embracing AI-assisted software engineering to improve developer productivity, automate repetitive tasks and accelerate the delivery of high-quality JDK updates., The delivery of robust and compatible JDK updates

  • Investigate, reproduce and resolve complex issues reported by enterprise customers.
  • Develop fixes and backport them across multiple supported JDK release trains.

Improve the effectiveness of the JDK production process

  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate debugging, code analysis, root-cause investigation and patch porting.
  • Design and develop tooling that improves engineering productivity through automation and AI-assisted workflows.

Ensure that Java continues to be the language of choice for enterprises

  • Improve JDK diagnostics for deployments of Java across the cloud and within mission critical production environments.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the JDK through engineering improvements and participation in the OpenJDK community.

Requirements

  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong Java development skills, particularly within the JDK Core Libraries.
  • Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, networking and performance analysis.
  • An enthusiasm for using AI as an everyday engineering tool to improve productivity, accelerate debugging and automate software development tasks.
  • A passion for improving engineering productivity through automation, developer tooling, scripting and AI-assisted workflows.
  • Knowledge of Java security technologies (JSSE, TLS, cryptography, certificates and Post-Quantum Cryptography) is desirable.
  • Experience contributing to open-source software, backporting fixes across multiple software release trains, or developing engineering tools and automation would be an advantage.

Benefits & conditions

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $92,500 to $209,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
