Job description

IntelliProve builds a software platform that turns a face video into vital signs. The work ahead is to make the backend and cloud infrastructure behind that platform genuinely production-grade. Reliable enough to carry medical traffic, traceable enough to pass an audit, and ready to scale with the product. This role owns the Python/FastAPI backend and the AWS infrastructure that make that possible.

Working at IntelliProve

At IntelliProve we’re making proactive and preventive health monitoring effortless, turning a short face video into objective vital-signs data for both consumer apps and clinical tools.

We’re a 14-headed team in Ghent building two products on the same rPPG technology: a consumer wellbeing app that’s live today, and a medical device heading for CE marking. Working on both in parallel keeps us close to real users and real regulators at the same time. Feedback loops are short, and decisions get made by the people doing the work.

We value ownership, curiosity and clarity. People at IntelliProve take responsibility for what they ship from design through deployment, ask questions instead of guessing, and prefer clear, maintainable solutions over clever ones. You’ll work side by side with engineers, ML researchers and regulatory colleagues, and your input will shape how the platform evolves.

The role at a glance

  • Full-time role, open to a freelance arrangement
  • Shared ownership of the backend platform and cloud infrastructure
  • Close collaboration with our CTO, ML engineers, frontend engineer, QA lead and customer-facing integrations
  • Direct impact on a Class IIa medical device heading for CE marking
  • Ghent office, up to 2 days remote per week

What you’d be working on

Backend & APIs

  • Build and maintain Python/FastAPI services on PostgreSQL. Clean API design, sensible error handling, sane pagination
  • Own authentication and authorisation flows (OAuth2/JWT) and the API security hardening that goes with them
  • Design relational database schemas that make queries simple, and reason about indexing and migrations as the platform grows
  • Contribute to backend features that support the WebSocket-based face-scan pipeline used by both products

Cloud infrastructure & deployments

  • Maintain and extend our AWS infrastructure (ECS, ELB, S3, RDS, EC2, CloudFront) using Terraform
  • Own the CI/CD pipelines on GitHub Actions end to end - build, test, deploy
  • Containerise services with Docker and keep deployments boring
  • Improve observability across the stack (logs, metrics, traces) so we know what’s happening in production before users do

Reliability & compliance

  • Bring production-grade engineering discipline to the medical pipeline * documentation, traceability, validation
  • Apply security-by-design across both products, especially where backend code touches medical data
  • Take operational ownership of what you ship

Requirements

  • Several years of professional experience in backend and/or DevOps engineering at a medior level (3-6 years), or equivalent practical experience with a relevant educational background. This is deliberately an all-rounder medior role. We are not looking for a deep backend specialist nor a dedicated DevOps engineer
  • Strong experience with Python and a modern REST framework. We use FastAPI on PostgreSQL; equivalent experience (Django, Flask) is fine if you know the framework you’ve worked with deeply
  • Comfort with REST API security and authentication (OAuth2/JWT)
  • Solid experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred; MySQL acceptable)
  • Hands-on DevOps on a major cloud. We use AWS (ECS, ELB, S3, RDS, EC2, CloudFront); equivalent experience on GCP or Azure is fine as long as you understand the same building blocks
  • Real experience writing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code. Terraform preferred; Pulumi or AWS CDK equally welcome. You’ve actually shipped IaC in production, not just consumed it
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerised deployments. We use GitHub Actions and Docker; equivalent experience (GitLab CI, CircleCI) is fine. You’ve built or maintained a pipeline end to end
  • Solid engineering hygiene and a security-by-design reflex

Nice to have

  • Observability and reliability tooling: Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Posthog, Prometheus
  • Healthcare or regulated-software exposure: IEC 62304, ISO 27001, GDPR, or general healthcare data handling
  • Experience with real-time or WebSocket workloads. Our face-scan pipeline is WebSocket-based
  • Threat modelling, dependency scanning and secrets management beyond the basics, Practical details Working language is English; Dutch is preferred. The role is based at our Ghent office and requires the right to work in Belgium.

Benefits & conditions

  • You know where rigour matters (medical paths, security-critical code) and where pragmatism wins. You’re systematic without being slow
  • You take operational ownership of what you ship. Systems break, deployments fail, and you don’t throw them over the wall
  • You’re comfortable working across boundaries (engineering, ML, regulatory, customer-facing) and communicate clearly with non-engineers
  • You prefer clarity, correctness and maintainability over unnecessary complexity
  • You’re comfortable to say “I don’t know” and go find out

What we offer

  • Full-time role (employee or freelance) in a health tech company building toward CE marking
  • Shared ownership of the backend and cloud platform that runs both products
  • Competitive salary and additional benefits, aligned with your experience, plus stock options (ESOPs) and KPI-tied bonuses via Payflip
  • Small team, short feedback loops, high autonomy
  • Flexible working setup, up to 2 days remote per week, with the rest at our Wintercircus office in Ghent: a vibrant working hub with lunch & learns, masterclasses, campus open hours and an on-site gym
  • Software that ends up in clinical settings, not yet another SaaS dashboard
