Job description
As a Databricks Data Engineer on the US Risk Technology team, you’ll be working on AML Tech, Databricks, and other applications to support the US Risk Management business. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will translate business requirements into robust technical solutions, leveraging Azure Databricks, Apache Spark, Delta Lake, and modern data engineering practices.
The role offers exposure to the full range of the software development life cycle, from development to testing to support.

How You’ll Succeed

Technical Skills - Make the link between business problems and technology solutions with a cloud-first mindset. Design, develop and maintain scalable batch and streaming data pipelines using Azure Databricks and Apache Spark. Build and optimize ETL/ELT frameworks to ingest data from multiple structured and unstructured source systems into cloud platforms. Engineer and publish curated datasets for consumption by business intelligence tools and downstream applications

Cloud Computing - Use the full range of Microsoft Azure Services with exposure to machine learning. Azure Certifications would be an asset (AZ-900).

Documentation - Comfortable documenting each step of the software delivery life cycle on wiki and our change management software ServiceNow.

DevSecOps - Write secure code following industry best practices and incorporate DevSecOps into your workflow.

Communication - write with precision and clarity. Express technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Collaboration - build trusted working relationships with business stakeholders, technology partners, and external vendors.

Business Savvy - apply knowledge of banking and risk management to ensure alignment between business objectives and software requirements.

Continuous Learning - stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, changes in the banking industry, and regulatory developments.
Requirements

You can demonstrate 5-7 years experience in. Software Engineering and have a relevant post-secondary degree.. You must be proficient in languages such as Python and bring hands-on experience with the Databricks platform implementing ETL processes. You must be comfortable writing SQL queries. Experience with PySpark or Spark SQL for data processing, along with Microsoft Azure, would be valuable. Experience working with databases, cloud computing, or application development/support would be particularly relevant.

It’s an asset if you have experience with C# and .NET

You understand banking fundamentals. Exposure to risk management, capital stress testing, credit risk models, and regulatory compliance would be particularly relevant.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $120,000 - $160,000 for the Chicago market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component. CIBC offers a full range of benefits and programs to meet our employee’s needs; including Medical, Dental, Vision, Health Savings Account, Life Insurance, Disability, and Other Insurance Plans, Paid Time Off (including Sick Leave, Parental Leave and Vacation), Holidays and 401(k), in addition to other special perks reserved for our team members.”
