Job description

Experteer Overview As a Principal Software Engineer at Northern Trust, you will provide technical leadership for cloud-native applications and platforms. You’ll shape architecture with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure systems that support our wealth management and asset services. You’ll drive modern engineering practices and champion AI-assisted tooling to boost productivity. This role offers impact across strategic initiatives and exposure to enterprise-scale technology within a trusted financial services firm. Compensation / Benefits * Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams to foster collaboration and excellence * Serve as principal designer for major systems, defining architectures and technical standards * Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions with stakeholders * Design, develop, and support applications using C#, .NET Core/.NET, ASP.NET Core, EF Core, SQL Server, and REST APIs * Architect and implement microservices and event-driven solutions using Kafka * Build cloud-native solutions on Azure and/or AWS with Docker, Kubernetes, and IaC * Drive CI/CD, automated testing, DevOps, and secure development practices * Lead technical planning, design, implementation, and status reporting for strategic initiatives * Ensure compliance with enterprise standards, audit requirements, change management, and data security policies * Collaborate with vendors and partners as needed * Evaluate emerging technologies and patterns to improve outcomes and efficiency * Champion AI-powered development tools to enhance productivity and code quality Tasks * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline * 10+ years of software engineering experience with enterprise-scale systems * 5+ years of technical leadership or solution design experience * Strong expertise in C#, .NET Core/ASP.NET Core, EF Core, SQL Server, REST APIs, and Microservices * Experience with Kafka or equivalent messaging platforms * Docker and Kubernetes * Azure and/or AWS * Git, GitHub, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar CI/CD tools * Solid understanding of SDLC, design patterns, distributed systems, Agile, and DevOps * Hands-on experience with AI-assisted software engineering tools (GitHub Copilot, etc.) * Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives and influence across teams * Excellent communication, analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills Key requirements * retirement benefits (401k and pension) * health, dental, and vision coverage * paid time off and parental leave * life and disability insurance * discretionary bonus program (may include equity) * well-being benefits
