Job description

As a Platform Services Specialist at Squarepoint, you will play a crucial technical role in delivering and maintaining mission-critical platform infrastructure using the DevOps methodology. You will work with a diverse group of stakeholders, including developers, researchers, and infrastructure teams, to build, automate, and scale the solutions and services used across the firm.

You will be responsible for designing, monitoring, and scaling our platform infrastructure. You will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the productivity and efficiency of our teams by enhancing operational efficiency, developing CI/CD pipelines, creating self-service workflows, and directly improving the developer and researcher experience.

While you may have deep expertise in only one or more areas, you will be able to contribute across the entire ecosystem. Our platform domains include:

  • Observability: Monitoring, tracing, logging, and alerting infrastructure.
  • Scheduling & Orchestration: HPC schedulers and container orchestration for compute-intensive workloads.
  • Development Tools: CI/CD pipelines, version control, artifact repositories, and developer platforms.
  • Middleware: Critical applications like messaging queues, service discovery, and load balancing.
  • Databases: A wide range of relational, NoSQL, and time-series database systems.
  • Automation: Infrastructure automation, configuration management, and self-service enablement.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering roles.
  • Software development experience with Python.
  • Experience with system administration and troubleshooting (Linux, Bash, Containerization).
  • Infrastructure automation and configuration management experience (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Puppet).

Nice to have:

  • Deep knowledge of a modern observability stack (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic Stack, Vector, AlertManager).
  • Experience with a variety of database platforms (e.g., PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, MSSQL, Redis, FoundationDB).
  • Familiarity with specific middleware (e.g., Kafka, Consul), HPC schedulers (e.g., Slurm), Kubernetes, or workflow orchestrators (e.g., Airflow, Prefect).
  • Experience with on-premise deployments of development tools like GitLab, Artifactory, CICD, or JupyterHub.
  • Knowledge of other programming languages such as Golang, Rust, or JavaScript.
  • Experience with advanced software engineering concepts, API development, and creating Kubernetes Operators.
