Database Administrator

Experteer Overview In this role you manage mission-critical maritime databases across shipboard, on-premise, and Azure environments, ensuring reliability, performance, and security. You will support real-time data, analytics, and scientific research through hybrid data architectures and offline-capable operations. You collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain continuity of operations and implement secure, scalable database solutions in the federal contractor context. Compensation / Benefits * Provide day-to-day database administration in line with SOW requirements * Install, configure, and maintain databases across shipboard, on-premise, and Azure * Support real-time sensor data collection and scientific instrumentation * Manage offline-capable databases and synchronization with limited connectivity * Administer Azure SQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure Database for PostgreSQL/MySQL * Oversee data ingestion, transformation, and storage for operational/scientific data * Maintain hybrid replication between shipboard and shore systems * Monitor performance, capacity, availability; perform tuning and indexing * Implement backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures * Enforce database security controls and auditing per federal standards * Develop automation/scripts (PowerShell, Python, Bash, SQL) in Azure * Maintain documentation, baselines, and system diagrams * Participate in incident response and root cause analysis * Collaborate with system admins, cloud engineers, developers, and scientists * Support change/configuration management and lifecycle activities Tasks * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field or equivalent experience * 5+ years of enterprise/operational DB administration * Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL * Production experience with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL * Strong SQL, including optimization, indexing, and schema maintenance * Backup, recovery, and disaster recovery experience * DB security, access controls, auditing experience * Automation scripting with PowerShell, Python, Bash, and SQL * Experience in hybrid on-premise and Azure environments * Ability to obtain/maintain Public Trust High (US Citizenship required) Key requirements * Medical Insurance * Vision Insurance * Dental Insurance * Life and AD&D Insurance * 401(k) Savings Plan * Education and Professional Training
