Job description

  • Design conceptual, logical, and physical data models using Erwin Data Modeler.
  • Create, review, and refine DDL for database objects such as tables, views, indexes, constraints, partitions, and related structures.
  • Perform forward and reverse engineering of data models from Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Partner with data architects, DBAs, ETL developers, and business stakeholders to gather, interpret, and translate requirements into scalable solutions.
  • Apply normalization principles and ensure data integrity, referential integrity, and strong metadata standards.
  • Support dimensional modeling efforts for warehousing and analytics needs, including star and snowflake schemas.
  • Participate in model reviews, impact assessments, comparisons, and version control activities.
  • Contribute to data governance practices, including naming standards, documentation, and lineage tracking.
  • Help improve existing data solutions and support database migration and synchronization efforts across environments.
  • Follow established data governance and information protection guidelines while collaborating with the broader data architecture team.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on data modeling experience in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong expertise in Erwin Data Modeler, including subject areas, templates, and DDL generation.
  • Advanced SQL skills and deep experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Solid understanding of DDL and database object design, including tables, indexes, constraints, sequences, synonyms, and materialized views.
  • Knowledge of database fundamentals such as indexing, partitioning, clustering, and query execution plans.
  • Experience with normalization, denormalization, surrogate keys, and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Ability to document models clearly and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfort working independently, managing multiple priorities, and contributing in a team environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with data vault modeling concepts.
  • Familiarity with Git or similar version control tools.
  • Experience with model comparison and synchronization tools.
  • Exposure to Hadoop or MongoDB.
  • Experience presenting design concepts and recommendations to a range of stakeholders.

Horizontal is committed to creating an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are valued and every team member can contribute meaningfully. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and encourage anyone who meets the qualifications to apply.
