Test Automation Expert

We’re seeking a Senior Test Coordinator & Test Automation Expert to join our client’s multidisciplinary test team on a freelance basis for a 12-month project in Hasselt, Belgium. This is a mission-critical role: you’ll drive the preparation, coordination, and execution of test activities across both projects and agile development teams, directly impacting the quality and reliability of complex enterprise software landscapes. Your expertise will help shape a pragmatic, risk-based testing approach and elevate the entire testing operation to new heights. Why This Role Matters

The stakes are high: your leadership in test strategy, automation, and quality assurance will safeguard critical business processes and enable innovation at scale. What You’ll Be Doing

• Leading the coordination and execution of test activities within both project-based and agile development environments
• Establishing and maintaining pragmatic, risk-based testing strategies for complex application and integration landscapes
• Driving the adoption of test automation and shift-left testing practices to accelerate quality delivery
• Coaching and mentoring fellow testers, sharing knowledge and best practices to elevate team capability
• Collaborating closely with business stakeholders, developers, and other teams to align testing with business goals
• Analyzing business requirements and translating them into actionable test scenarios and cases
• Designing, implementing, and maintaining test automation frameworks and CI/CD-integrated test solutions
• Ensuring comprehensive coverage across integration, regression, and end-to-end testing
• Championing quality assurance across all test levels and contributing to continuous improvement of test processes

• Expert-level experience as a Test Specialist in Agile/Scrum projects
• Proven track record in software testing within complex enterprise environments
• Hands-on experience with programmable test automation (TypeScript, WebDriver.IO, Node.js, Cucumber or similar)
• Strong background in formal test methods, requirements-based and risk-based testing
• Demonstrated ability to analyze business requirements and develop robust test scenarios and cases
• Experience designing and maintaining test automation frameworks
• Solid understanding of integration, regression, and end-to-end testing
• Experience with CI/CD-integrated test automation
• Familiarity with Tricentis Tosca and enterprise test automation best practices is a plus
• Proven ability to coach, mentor, and guide testers in both technical and process aspects
• Strong stakeholder management skills, bridging business, development, and testing teams

Language Proficiency

• Fluency in Dutch at European CEFR level C2 is required

Other Requirements

• Demonstrable hands-on mentality and excellent communication skills (to be assessed during interview)
• Experience in multidisciplinary teams supporting both projects and agile development
• Ability to contribute to a quality-focused, shift-left testing approach
• Experience with stakeholder management across business, IT, and suppliers
