Job description
Our mobile engineers are responsible for building the full suite of user experiences for our members, leveraging our proprietary backend banking core. The mobile apps are native (Kotlin/Swift) and primarily use gRPC to interface with our backend. Being the primary interface for our members to manage their finances (there isn’‘t a web app), the mobile experience needs to be highly performant and intuitive to use. This forces our engineers to think through foundational layers of application infrastructure, reusable UI components, and the collection of data that drive these decisions. - Owning the delivery of features from system design through launch, with support from senior engineers on the team
- Contributing to the scalable and reusable mobile frameworks that drive code consistency and engineering velocity
- Raising the bar on architecture, testing, and monitoring practices in the code you write and review
- Helping Current’’s members build better financial futures through products like Paycheck Advance, Build Card, and Savings Pods
- A strong culture of code and architecture review, with real feedback and room to grow
Requirements
We are looking for an Android engineer to join our team in New York. This role has a salary range of $160,000 - $200,000. The ideal candidate should have a few years of experience building native mobile applications and be ready to take on full ownership of features. This person should also be a motivated self-starter who feels at ease working through ambiguous challenges in a fast-paced environment., * 2+ years of native Android development, using Kotlin
- Working knowledge of Android fundamentals including component lifecycles, dependency injection (Hilt), multi-threading, persistence, and usage of Jetpack components (Compose, Material 3, Navigation, ViewModel, etc)
- Comfortable working within a modularized app architecture, including unidirectional data flows, MVVM, and use of Gradle modules
- Experience working in a codebase shared by a team of engineers, with a real code review culture
- A genuine interest in the personal finance space!
BONUS:
- Experience with profiling and optimizing UI performance (smooth animations, reducing jank, etc)
- Experience with using gRPC (Google Remote Procedure Call) and Protobuf (Protocol Buffers) schemas for networking
- Have published and maintained apps on the Google Play Store
- Experience migrating legacy XML/View code to Compose, Android, Animation, Banking Services, Code Reviews, Customer Experience, Data Collection, Dependency Injection, Flexible Spending Accounts, Futures, Google Apps, Gradle, Healthcare, Healthcare Software, Internet Application, Kotlin, Mobile Applications, Model View ViewModel (MVVM), Multithreaded Programming, Performance Reviews, Performance Tuning/Optimization, Personal Finance, Product Design, Product Development, Psychiatry and Mental Health, Quality Assurance Methodology, RPC (Remote Procedure Call), Software Administration, Software Engineering, Team Building, User Interface/Experience (UI/UX), XML (EXtensible Markup Language)
