Job description
Our client is seeking a Senior Software Engineer responsible for developing, maintaining, and scaling the company’s software products. This role will contribute to building new features and products while ensuring the reliability, performance, and integrity of existing systems.
The ideal candidate is passionate about building high-quality, dependable software and enjoys solving complex engineering challenges at scale. This person will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and cross-functional teams to design solutions that meet customer needs and support business goals.
Core Responsibilities
Software Design, Architecture, and Maintenance (60%)
- Design scalable systems and architectures spanning multiple services and teams
- Develop features as part of a remote engineering team while building resiliency into solutions from the beginning
- Define technical specifications and requirements for new systems, products, and features in partnership with product and stakeholders
- Lead multi-sprint projects from ambiguous requirements through successful delivery
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code with strong ownership and accountability
- Ensure feature quality, reliability, and completeness while balancing speed and long-term sustainability
- Review code, technical designs, specifications, and architectural decisions
- Manage technical debt and improve system maintainability
- Follow established engineering patterns and best practices
- Understand customer workflows and how technology supports their goals
- Troubleshoot software issues and perform ongoing upgrades to vendor integrations and infrastructure
Reliability, Operations, and Resiliency (40%)
- Build software with strong observability and monitoring capabilities
- Respond to alerts, support production systems, and create documentation/runbooks
- Identify potential failure points and improve overall system reliability
- Scale infrastructure to support high-volume events and periods of increased demand
- Participate in an on-call rotation for incident response and troubleshooting
- Lead incident follow-ups and implement improvements based on learnings
- Support technical requests from customers and internal teams, translating complex issues into clear solutions
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale
- Proven ability to handle large or unexpected traffic spikes
- Experience leading multi-sprint projects from unclear requirements to successful delivery
- Strong understanding of resiliency patterns including rate limiting, retries, queuing, backpressure, and graceful degradation
- Experience integrating with third-party services and managing external system failures (telephony/carrier experience is a plus)
- Experience leading incident response and implementing preventative improvements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
