Job description

You are DevOps Engineer #3. You join a Lead DevOps who has laid the groundwork - now you help scale it. You’ll shape the infrastructure, automation, and reliability standards that let the entire engineering team ship faster and more safely., * You think DevOps means maintaining Jenkins and writing Helm charts.

  • You are a sysadmin by heart and do not step outside of infrastructure.
  • You need a well-defined scope handed to you before you can start.
  • You are not comfortable operating under banking-grade regulatory scrutiny.
  • You need a large team around you to be effective.

Requirements

You own big projects and drive them autonomously. You’ll build and operate the platform that everything runs on - AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, observability, incident response, end to end. You work across engineering, security, and product to turn infrastructure into a competitive advantage. You design for failure, automate everything you can, and raise the bar for what production-grade means at a bank run by agents., * Months 1-2, You ramp up on the current infrastructure - how deployments work, where the rough edges are, what is automated and what is not. You pick up your first big project as an IC and start shipping. You pair with the Lead DevOps but operate independently from week one.

  • Months 3-4: You ship your first big project - for example, PR environment deployments or multi-region infrastructure. You scope the next project on the roadmap.
  • Months 5-6: You shape the infrastructure roadmap alongside the Lead DevOps. You scope, plan, and drive projects as the lead. You are the person the engineering team trusts to keep the platform fast, reliable, and safe., * Experience: 4+ years in DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, or similar roles.
  • Cloud Fluency: Advanced hands-on experience with AWS (IAM, EC2, EKS, VPC, CloudWatch, etc.).
  • Kubernetes Mastery: Ability to design, debug, and operate production-grade Kubernetes environments.
  • IaC Expertise: Strong experience with Terraform (modules, workspaces, complex architectures).
  • Automation Mindset: Proficiency in Python, Go, or similar languages for automation and tooling.
  • CI/CD: Experience designing and maintaining GitHub Actions - or comparable CI/CD systems.
  • Observability: Familiarity with metrics, logging, distributed tracing, and incident response best practices.
  • Communication: You make complex infra concepts intuitive for developers and stakeholders.
  • Based in Berlin or willing to relocate - this is an in-person role. We build together.

Benefits & conditions

We believe that throwing smart people with high agency at big problems produces the best outcomes. The people who succeed here share the following traits:

  • Relentless: You can’t leave something broken. You don’t stop because it got hard or because no one is watching.
  • Set The Bar: You’re harder on yourself than anyone else would be. You don’t need external accountability to care about quality.
  • Shape The Game: You don’t wait for a playbook and you don’t need one. You walke into genuinely new territory and figure it out. You move before anyone asked you to.
  • Systems First: You don’t solve problems by adding people or effort. You build systems that make the problem smaller. Your first instinct is to automate, not to handle it manually.

This role is for you if:

  • You will write backend code, learn new tooling, or do whatever it takes to get the job done - you don’t see anything as outside your lane.
  • You care as much about developer experience as you do about uptime.
  • Issues that block developers are your problems, not theirs.
  • You are excited about designing infrastructure for a bank that runs on agents, not on legacy systems.
  • You want to own the whole problem end to end, not a narrow slice of it., Compensation packages at Augustus include base salary, equity, and benefits. New hire offers are made based on a candidate’s experience, expertise and geographic location. The annual base salary range for this role is €75,000-€150,000 + equity., * Real Participation: Employees are shareholders. You will think and act like an owner.
  • Perks & Benefits: Relocation support, visa support, the latest Apple gear (MacBook + AirPods), lunch benefit, gym benefit, a beautiful office in the heart of the city, 4x on-/offsites per year, and an annual development budget.

Additional to the global benefits above, we offer localized benefits such as comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance and a 401(k) retirement plan for our US team.

About the company

The Dollar is the best product in the history of the world - there is infinite global demand. But International Fintechs and non-US banks are left with two unsatisfying options to access it: Either they build on legacy clearing banks that are slow and unreliable, or they interface with middleware providers that don’t move and hold the dollars directly, but themselves rely on underlying legacy banks. Augustus collapses this stack by combining two things: A real, national bank charter (in organization), and Marble, our proprietary core banking system, built around intelligence, made of code.

We are a group of operators, unicorn early employees, ex-founders and people who walked away from degrees because they believe this is an industry and career defining opportunity. We are backed with more than $200M from Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures, Tiger Global, Hummingbird, QED, Creandum, and the founders of Nubank, Ramp, Deel, Circle, Fluidstack, Fuse, and n8n.

We are regulated in Europe and live with Euro and Stablecoin clearing today. Now, we are building the US team from the ground up, while continuing to grow rapidly in Europe.
