Job description

As a Sr. Data Engineer, you will partner with key customers to understand their data and metrics reporting requirements, collaborate with engineering teams to source data from the systems they own, and build data pipelines and reporting solutions that harness that data. This is a high-visibility, high-accountability role working with customer teams across the DCE Design Engineering organization delivering and maintaining solutions used by directors, senior managers, and project leads. You will own the timely delivery and reliability of data used for business decision-making, and you will own the long-term strategy for the solutions you build. Your work will directly influence decision-making and strategy across our organization.

The ideal candidate has excellent analytical abilities, deep curiosity, and strong technical skills. They have a bias toward data-driven decision-making and a track record of building scalable data pipelines and systems that enable it. They are a self-starter - comfortable with ambiguity, able to think big and be creative, while exercising strong judgment and good instincts to be right a lot. They are motivated by delivering high-quality, innovative solutions within timeframes most think are impossible. If you are excited about using data to look around corners and drive the engineering solutions that underpin AWS data centers, this role is for you.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure - in other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

Key job responsibilities

  • Partner with key customers to understand their data and metrics reporting requirements
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to source data from systems they own, and build our team-owned data stores when needed
  • Design and build data pipelines and reporting solutions that harness that data
  • Own delivery and reliability - ensuring quality data and reports reach customers on time and can be trusted for business decision-making

Requirements

5+ years of data engineering experience

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
  • Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS
  • Hands-on experience with reporting and Data Visualization tools such as Quick Sight / Tableau / Power BI or other BI packages
  • Proficiency in SQL and Data Analysis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR
  • Experience operating large data warehouses
