Job description

Position Summary… The Principal, Systems and Infrastructure Engineer leads the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable infrastructure solutions to support business objectives. This role involves optimizing system performance, driving automation initiatives, and ensuring security compliance across platforms. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to manage cloud migrations, capacity planning, and integration efforts while maintaining up-to-date documentation and operational standards. By applying expertise in systems engineering and infrastructure architecture, this position ensures reliable, high-availability environments that meet evolving technical and business requirements within a complex enterprise setting. About the team: The Enterprise Directory Services Core team manages Walmart’s multiple Active Directory forests, ensuring essential services like LDAP function securely and efficiently. The team maintains a stable and well-protected Active Directory environment, exemplifying operational excellence. It provides consulting support to application teams by sharing best practices and resolving application-related issues. This team plays a vital role in sustaining the infrastructure that supports Walmart’s business operations, focusing on reliability, security, modernization, and collaboration to effectively meet organizational needs.

What you’ll do… Lead the design, security, and management of hybrid identity systems. This role drives identity modernization, cloud-based identity and access management adoption, architecture standards, automation, and resilient directory services across large-scale infrastructure.

  • Techncal leadership over operations of enterprise Active Directory services across multi-domain, multi-forest, and hybrid identity environments.
  • Drive modernization of domain controller infrastructure through life capacity management, resiliency engineering, and service optimization initiatives.
  • Advance enterprise identity modernization by integrating Active Directory, cloud-based identity, and the reduction of legacy authentication dependencies.
  • Develop and maintain automation frameworks, monitoring platforms, alerting solutions that improve operational efficiency.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and escalation support for engineers.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in IT infrastructure, experience within the past 5 years in enterprise IAM, Active Directory, cloud-based identity, and access management adoption.
  • Deep hands-on knowledge of AD forests, domains, GPOs, trusts, replication, and Lifecycle Management.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical projects, mentor engineers, and align security standards with business goals
  • Proficiency in cloud migration strategies and management of public cloud platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of automation tools, scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell and Python), and CI/CD pipelines to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Ability to analyze infrastructure performance metrics and develop capacity plans aligned with business requirements.
  • Skilled in configuration, release, and integration management to ensure seamless system deployments., Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, information technology, or related area and 5 years’experience in technology infrastructure engineering across areas such as compute, storage, network, mobility or virtualization-related technologies. Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, information technology, or related area and 3 Years of relevant experience in configuration management, developing automation for Provisioning and Orchestration, experience developing and managing service-level objectives (SLOs)/service level indicators (SLIs) for Infrastructure Service availability and performance, We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
