Job description
Our client, a ZERO CARBON energy organisation, are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join a major engineering and transformation programme, supporting the development of data-driven solutions within a complex technical environment.
The role will sit at the intersection of data engineering, software development and data visualisation, with a particular focus on Databricks, SQL, Python and Power BI.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining data models, transforming data from multiple sources and translating business requirements into high-quality data products and reporting solutions. A key part of the role will be developing Power BI dashboards using a conformed data model within Databricks, ensuring that business logic, underlying data and reporting outputs remain fully aligned.
You will work closely with wider IT, IIM and IDA stakeholders, helping to drive a more data-centric approach across the team and supporting colleagues in adopting modern data engineering and analytical practices., * Develop and maintain data models.
- Design and develop data engineering solutions using Databricks, SQL and Python.
- Develop Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions using conformed data models.
- Translate business requirements into robust data models, business logic and reporting outputs.
- Ensure consistency and traceability between business requirements, data models and visualisations.
- Extract, consolidate and analyse data from multiple sources to support project and business requirements.
- Analyse technical and engineering documentation and identify relevant data and information.
- Produce data analysis that highlights key issues, trends and opportunities.
- Maintain accurate and timely records across databases, systems and spreadsheets.
- Work closely with wider IT, IIM and IDA stakeholders to deliver effective data solutions.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, procedures and systems through better use of data.
- Support the wider team in developing data skills and adopting more data-centric ways of working.
- Take ownership of processes and proactively identify and resolve Configuration Management issues.
- Support project milestones through effective analysis, planning and delivery.
Requirements
You will be an experienced Data Engineer or technically focused data professional with a strong understanding of software development, data engineering and data visualisation.
You should have hands-on experience with:
- Databricks
- SQL
- Python
- Power BI
- Data modelling and database management
- Data extraction, transformation and analysis
- Developing dashboards and data visualisations
- Translating business requirements into technical data solutions
Experience working within an engineering, infrastructure or highly regulated environment would be advantageous. Previous experience within the nuclear industry is useful but is not essential.
A degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline would be preferred, although a strong technical background and demonstrable industry experience will also be considered.
An understanding of quality arrangements associated with nuclear plant construction would be beneficial, alongside an understanding of engineering requirements and processes.

- Experience working within the nuclear, energy or engineering sectors.
- Knowledge of quality arrangements and governance within nuclear or major infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of engineering requirements and configuration management.
- Experience working with engineering or technical data.
- Knowledge of power station design or broader engineering principles.
- Experience with project, schedule or budget management.
Benefits & conditions
Data Engineer - £424 per day - Inside IR35 - Hybrid working from a site near Bristol - initial contract until 31/12/2026 with extension.
