Job description
We are looking for an experienced Network Engineer to join a specialist infrastructure team supporting a complex, highly available network environment within a major UK public sector organisation.
This is a hands-on role covering both operational support and project delivery, maintaining the connectivity that underpins critical frontline services. You will work across a varied network estate spanning multiple data centres, on-premises infrastructure and cloud services.
The role
You will provide support across a broad range of network technologies, including Cisco ACI, Nexus and Catalyst switching, Cisco ASA and Firepower, Check Point firewalls, wireless infrastructure, load balancers and reverse proxies, IP address management and voice technologies.
The wider environment includes WAN, LAN and campus networks, corporate Wi-Fi, public and private APNs, remote-access and site-to-site VPNs, alongside Microsoft 365 and Azure connectivity.
You will also contribute to local, regional and national technology projects, helping deliver resilient IT systems and services within a critical public service environment., The role is primarily based in Bradford, West Yorkshire, with an expectation that you will work from other sites across the organisation’s regional estate when required.
Requirements
You will ideally hold Cisco CCNP certification, or an equivalent qualification, and have at least three years’ experience within a comparable network engineering environment.
Strong knowledge across a number of the following areas will be important:
- Cisco and Check Point firewall rule bases
- Access lists, NAT and PAT
- TCP/IP and UDP
- BGP and OSPF routing
- Policy-based routing
- DNS and DHCP
- VLANs, trunk ports, port channels and STP
- Cisco ACI, Nexus and Catalyst
- ASA and Firepower
- Wireless LAN Controllers and Access Points
- VPNs and IPSec
- VoIP, including SIP, SBCs and ATAs
- PKI and certificate management
- Load balancing and reverse proxy technologies
- Microsoft 365 and Azure network connectivity
You will need a methodical approach to troubleshooting, strong analytical skills and the confidence to take ownership of technical issues through to resolution. The role also requires clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
