Job description

We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our data migration project, which aims to transition data from Legacy databases to the AWS cloud. This role is specifically for candidates who have active SC clearance. The Senior DevOps Engineer will focus on building and maintaining the infrastructure and automation required to ensure a smooth, secure, and efficient migration process while also mentoring and supporting other DevOps members in the team., Infrastructure Management:

  • Design, implement, and manage scalable AWS infrastructure tailored for data migration and cloud storage.
  • Develop infrastructure-as-code solutions using Terraform to provision and manage cloud resources efficiently.
  • Establish and enforce AWS IAM policies and roles to ensure secure access management.

Automation and CI/CD Pipelines:

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI for automating data migration processes, deployments, and testing.
  • Ensure seamless integration of automation workflows with existing development and testing frameworks.
  • Implement Zero Access automation to enhance security and compliance.
  • Develop CI/CD automation for AWS Glue and Fargate-based workloads and other cloud-native applications.

Monitoring and Logging:

  • Implement robust monitoring and logging solutions to maintain high availability and identify issues in Real Time.
  • Utilise AWS EventBridge Scheduler to manage scheduled events and automate operational workflows.
  • Analyse performance metrics and logs to proactively improve system performance and reliability.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement security best practices to safeguard sensitive data during migration.
  • Work closely with the security team to ensure compliance with internal security standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that AWS services such as S3, RDS (Oracle), and AWS Glue are configured securely and efficiently.
  • Experience in implementing AWS Secrets, Parameter Stores, KMS, and client side encryption.
  • Ensure least privilege for running a service in production without root/admin access.

Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to align the DevOps framework with the overall project architecture.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior DevOps team members.
  • Support the delivery manager and product manager in detailed low-level planning activities, including sprint planning and estimation.
  • Establish detailed runbooks for supporting live applications and defining routes to live.
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts in a jargon-free manner to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Work closely with customers, ensuring a positive and professional engagement throughout the project life cycle.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Document infrastructure configurations, processes, low-level design artefacts, and troubleshooting steps for knowledge sharing.
  • Report project progress and technical issues to the DevOps Manager.
  • Release planning and contribution to DevOps roadmap

Requirements

The role will also require strong customer-facing skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to non-technical stakeholders., * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps engineering, with a strong focus on cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS).
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.
  • Proficiency in CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI.
  • Experience with AWS services including S3, RDS (Oracle), AWS Glue, AWS IAM, and AWS Fargate.
  • Strong Scripting skills (Python, Bash, etc.) for automation.
  • Experience implementing Zero Access automation and CI/CD automation.
  • Strong customer-facing skills with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical concepts in a simple and understandable manner for non-technical audiences.
  • Must have Active SC clearance.

Preferred Skills:

  • AWS certification (eg, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer) is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  • Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations and compliance.
