Job description
The Data Center Technician L2 is a hands-on technical role supporting the deployment and ongoing operation of a high-performance data center environment supporting advanced AI infrastructure.
This position provides a strong foundation in data center operations, beginning with participation in a greenfield deployment phase where you will assist with infrastructure installation, cabling, system commissioning, and operational readiness activities. As the site transitions into steady-state operations, you will continue supporting day-to-day operational activities, helping ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of critical infrastructure.
You will work closely with senior technicians, engineers, facilities personnel, vendors, and site leadership to execute operational tasks, respond to incidents, and maintain high standards of quality, safety, and operational discipline. This role is ideal for technicians who are looking to expand their technical skillset while contributing to a mission-critical production environment.
You will collaborate with globally distributed teams, making professional English communication skills (written and verbal) essential for success in this role.
This role offers continuity across both deployment and operational phases, providing valuable experience and a clear path for technical growth within a critical infrastructure program. Milestone and its Customer are committed to building a stable, high-performing team that evolves with the site over time., * Support rack and stack activities, hardware installation, structured cabling, and infrastructure deployment during build phases.
- Assist with system provisioning, validation, testing, and basic configuration activities.
- Support commissioning, operational readiness, and infrastructure acceptance testing activities.
- Perform Layer 1 troubleshooting and assist with Layer 2 and Layer 3 diagnostics as directed.
- Monitor, track, and respond to hardware and infrastructure issues through ticketing and operational management systems.
- Maintain accurate asset, inventory, and configuration records using DCIM and ITSM platforms.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Method of Procedures (MOPs), safety requirements, and security protocols.
- Participate in change management activities including maintenance windows and production changes.
- Assist with the transition from deployment activities into steady-state operations.
- Support vendor, contractor, and facilities activities as required.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely, safe, and high-quality task execution.
- Participate in on-call rotations supporting 24x7 operations.
Requirements
- Professional fluency in English (written and verbal) is required for communication and coordination with global teams.
- Hands-on experience with hardware installation, structured cabling, and physical infrastructure deployment.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts including switches, routers, structured cabling, DNS, DHCP, and Layer 2/3 fundamentals.
- Familiarity with network device command line interfaces such as Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Dell, or similar platforms.
- Experience working within structured operational environments utilizing SOPs, ticketing systems, and change management processes.
- Familiarity with ITSM and DCIM platforms such as ServiceNow, Jira, NetBox, Sunbird, or similar tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to follow technical documentation, procedures, and work instructions accurately.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and adapt within a fast-paced operational environment.
- Willingness to learn new technologies, systems, and infrastructure platforms.
- Basic awareness of critical infrastructure systems including power distribution, cooling systems, and environmental monitoring technologies.
Physical & Operational Requirements
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Comfortable working on feet for extended periods.
- Ability to work safely around critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
- Ability to respond to operational incidents within defined service levels.
- Flexibility to support varying schedules based on project and operational requirements.
- Reliable transportation to work location(s).
- Ability to operate material handling equipment; certification is preferred.
- Ability to participate in on-call and after-hours support activities as required., * 2-4 years of experience in data center operations, telecommunications infrastructure, industrial operations, facilities environments, technical field services, or similar technical environments.
- Experience with rack and stack activities, hardware installation, and structured cabling.
- Experience provisioning or re-provisioning systems using USB, PXE, imaging, or network-based deployment methods.
- Basic experience configuring network devices including initial setup, IP assignment, and connectivity validation.
- Working knowledge of server hardware platforms including Dell, HPE, Supermicro, Lenovo, or similar systems.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals including DNS, DHCP, Layer 2/3 networking, and basic troubleshooting methodologies.
- Experience working with ticketing systems supporting incident and change management processes.
- Basic understanding of data center operational best practices including redundancy, cabling standards, and power awareness.
- Exposure to Linux operating systems is preferred.
- Exposure to electrical, cooling, facilities, or infrastructure systems is beneficial.
Preferred Qualifications
- CompTIA Server+, Network+, Linux+, or equivalent certifications.
- ITIL Foundation certification.
- CCNA or equivalent entry-level networking certification.
- Experience supporting hyperscale, colocation, AI infrastructure, or enterprise data center environments.
- Exposure to automation tools, scripting, or infrastructure deployment technologies.
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), environmental monitoring systems, or facility technologies.
- Experience participating in commissioning, infrastructure deployment, or operational readiness activities.
