Job description

SAP S/4HANA MDG Architect is responsible for designing, governing, and delivering end-to-end Master Data Governance (MDG) solutions within S/4HANA environments. This role defines the overall MDG architecture, drives data governance strategy, builds scalable workflows, and ensures high-quality master data across domains such as Business Partner, Materials, Finance, and Custom Objects. The architect partners with business leaders, data owners, and technical teams to build a robust master data foundation for enterprise transformation., * Lead design of end-to-end SAP MDG architecture across S/4HANA and integrated systems by conducting fit-gap workshops, solution blueprinting, and design reviews

  • Lead the MDG workstream across the SAP Activate phases: Discover * Prepare * Explore * Realize * Deploy * Run

  • Define MDG data models, governance processes, workflows, rules, and validation frameworks.
  • Architect MDG solutions for master data domains: Business Partner, Customer, Vendor, Product/Material, Finance (FSP, CoA), Custom Objects.

  • Recommend MDG best practices, reuse standard content, and define extensions as required.
  • Guide configuration of: o Data Models & UI Modelling (FPM) o Process Models & Rule-Based Workflow o Data Replication (SOA, IDocs, ALE) o BRF+ rules, derivations, validations o Duplicate check, search capabilities (HANA Search, TREX)

  • Lead MDG consolidation, central governance, and mass processing designs.
  • Define integration architecture between MDG and: o S/4HANA (Hub or Co-deployed) o ECC legacy systems o MDM, CRM, SRM, PLM o External non-SAP systems

  • Collaborate with middleware teams (PI/PO, CPI) for replication frameworks.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, data strategy, and security models.
  • Develop enterprise master data governance framework and policies.
  • Define data standards, ownership models, stewardship processes, and approval workflows.
  • Drive data quality rules, monitoring dashboards, and exception handling processes.
  • Oversee functional specs, test planning, UAT, cutover, migration validations, and hypercare.
  • Coordinate across technical, functional, and business teams to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Collaborate with business data owners, SMEs, and IT leadership on data governance decisions.
  • Provide thought leadership on MDG roadmap, data standards, and transformation strategy.
  • Conduct training and KT for business stewards and functional teams.
  • Support data migration strategy, mapping, cleansing, and harmonization activities.
  • Validate load cycles, conversion rules, and data readiness reports.
  • Coordinate with ETL/migration teams to ensure seamless cutover.

Requirements

  • Must have Strong hands-on experience with SAP MDG on S/4HANA (hub or co-deployed).
  • Experience in at least 2+ full-cycle MDG or S/4 implementations.
  • Deep knowledge of: o Data Models & Governance Framework o Process Modelling & Workflow o BRF+, BAdIs, FPM, UI Modelling o Data Replication Frameworks (SOA, IDoc, ALE) o MDG Consolidation & Mass Processing o Experience designing MDG for Customer/Vendor BP, Material Master, FICO master data, etc. o Web Dynpro/FPM concepts o OData, APIs, Fiori

  • Ability to guide ABAP developers on custom logic, enhancements, and WRICEF objects.
  • Experience working in Agile/Hybrid methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capability.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional workshops and drive consensus.
  • S/4HANA Certification or SAP MDG Certification (Good to Have)
  • Good to have Experience in industries with complex master data environments like Retail, Automotive, Manufacturing, CPG, Pharma, Utilities
