Job description

Experteer Overview As a Performance/Simulation/Application Engineer in Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems Division, you contribute to advanced engine component analysis and durability assessment. You’ll shape simulation-driven design improvements for performance, reliability and quality, partnering with global teams and staying current with new methods. Your work supports product development and issue resolution through rigorous analysis and actionable recommendations. This role offers exposure to cutting-edge simulation tools and cross-functional collaboration with engine test teams. Compensation / Benefits * Perform finite-element analyses for engine core components (cylinder heads, blocks, liners, pistons) * Execute coupled coolant CFD-heat transfer analyses, structural analyses, and TMF simulations * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define simulation requirements for new product development and cost-reduction projects * Document analysis objectives, methods, results, and conclusions clearly * Interpret results to provide design improvement recommendations * Collaborate with engine test teams to enhance simulation tool capabilities * Stay current with emerging simulation technologies and contribute to new methods/tools * Manage complex assignments with increasing autonomy Tasks * Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering or related engineering discipline * Strong proficiency in structural FEA including nonlinear material behavior, contact modeling, and non-metallic seals * Experience with thermal and thermo-mechanical coupled (TMF) simulations for durability * Ability to conduct fatigue life prediction (HCF, LCF, TMF) using standard methods/tools * Ability to interpret results and provide design recommendations * Proficiency with CAE solvers such as Abaqus or ANSYS Mechanical * Strong pre/post-processing with Abaqus, Simlab or HyperMesh * Excellent communication and project leadership capabilities * Accuracy and attention to detail Key requirements * Medical, dental, and vision benefits * Paid time off (vacation, holidays) * 401(k) savings plans * Health Savings Account (HSA) * Tuition Reimbursement * Career Development
