Job description

SAIC is seeking a seasoned Senior Oracle Database Engineer who will play a pivotal role in the design, deployment, and management of databases in the Cloud. This position may be remote anywhere in the US for the right candidate.

In this position, you’ll be tasked with ensuring the seamless operational performance of a multitude of applications, services, and teams that rely on cloud-based database infrastructures.

The perfect fit for this role is someone who adeptly applies Agile methodologies, integrating and elevating operational performance for services and applications in the process of being developed on, or transitioned to, cloud platforms such as AWS, among others using IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. With a solid background in traditional database administration and a disciplined operational approach, you will impart critical technical knowledge to guarantee that performance, capacity, as well as Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO), are consistent amongst Application and Product Teams at varying levels of Cloud adoption and DevSecOps evolution. Your contribution will be vital in achieving consistent excellence in relation to key business goals., * Architect and engineer advanced, cloud-native database solutions leveraging DevSecOps principles, incorporating automation and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) methodologies.

  • Initiate and oversee the development of prototypes to test new database architectures and technologies, ensuring alignment with system requirements.
  • Conduct a thorough assessment of cloud technologies, selecting those that promise enhanced performance and high availability for the database infrastructure.
  • Strategically plan database migrations, adopting industry-leading practices to facilitate a smooth transition.
  • Provide expert management of databases within the cloud environment, including both self-managed and Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) models.
  • Execute routine database administration and maintenance duties, including database security, audits, and other standard tasks.
  • Forge and maintain collaborative relationships with vendors, application teams, and clients to ensure the delivery of secure, efficient, and scalable database systems.
  • Uphold and enforce compliance with SOX, STIG, and other relevant standards and policies across all database operations.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is a requirement for this position.
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related discipline with 5+ years of IT experience, or a master’s and 3+ years of experience. An additional 4+ years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 2+ years of experience specializing in AWS Cloud technologies.
  • Must have a certification specific to AWS Cloud technologies.
  • A strong background with nine or more years in designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-scale Oracle databases systems.
  • Proficiency in performing routine database administration and maintenance operations.
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills, conducive to thriving in a lean and dynamic work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable hands-on proficiency with the services and concepts specific to AWS.
  • Expertise in the execution of public sector and government-related cloud migration and digital transformation projects.
  • A high degree of competency with relational database management systems (RDBMS).
  • A broad understanding of various databases and technologies, including both structured databases and unstructured data stores.
  • Experience in the design and operation of highly available, distributed infrastructure systems.
  • Technical fluency with the architecture and service portfolios of both AWS and Azure cloud ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with automated database provisioning, management, or Infrastructure as Code (IaC) pipelines would be advantageous.
  • A strong track record of working within an Agile development framework.
  • A history of providing and advancing operational support standards for teams involved in DevSecOps, as well as Data Warehousing and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
