Data Protection Lead

• Help manage data protection and privacy risks on a major government digital project
• Work closely with developers and data architects to build privacy into new systems from the start
• Report to senior managers and explain risks and solutions clearly
• Help the team find practical ways to deliver projects safely, rather than just saying no

• Good knowledge of GDPR and data protection law
• Experience working on large digital or technology projects, ideally in government
• This is a very technical role working with data architects so you must have experience of working with developers and technical teams
• Strong communication skills - able to work with senior managers and explain things simply
• Confident making decisions when things aren’t clear-cut
• Friendly, approachable, and a good team player
• Microsoft 365 skills

Desirable skills:

• A recognised privacy qualification (such as CIPP/E, CIPT, or CIPM)
• Experience sharing data between organisations

This is a senior, hands-on role. You won’t be managing staff, but you’ll be trusted to work independently and represent the team well with senior stakeholders. You’ll join a small core team, as part of a wider 15-person Data Governance team.
