Job description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Network Engineer (CCNP) to provide expert-level support for enterprise-wide network refresh initiatives at an onsite location in Warren, MI. This 18-month contract role requires full-time, onsite commitment and the ability to support both enterprise/core and distributed/manufacturing network environments. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background in LAN/WAN networking and hands-on expertise in network configuration, troubleshooting, and standards compliance. Key responsibilities for this position include:
- LAN and WAN Network Support:
- Deliver end-to-end LAN and WAN network engineering support for large-scale network refresh programs.
- Maintain and optimize network stability and performance in both centralized enterprise and distributed manufacturing environments.
- Support connectivity and ensure network integrity across core, corporate, and remote sites.
- Switch and Router Configuration:
- Perform configuration, remediation, and upgrades for Cisco switches and routers in accordance with network refresh plans.
- Implement network changes following established enterprise standards and change management processes.
- Validate and confirm the accuracy of all configurations post-deployment for compliance and effectiveness.
- Network Cutover and Site Readiness:
- Participate in site readiness assessments, preparation activities, and execution of cutover events.
- Support pre- and post-cutover initiatives to ensure successful migration and smooth transitions.
- Coordinate closely with site IT teams and project leads to drive alignment and minimize service disruption.
- Compliance and Standards:
- Support compliance with network standards across enterprise and site-specific environments throughout all refresh activities.
- Document network configurations, changes, and topologies according to best practices and organizational requirements.
- Engage in standards review and promote improvements to baseline network configurations.
- Troubleshooting and Escalation:
- Troubleshoot and resolve network issues encountered during deployment, migration, and stabilization phases.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures for recurring challenges.
- Escalate complex technical issues as needed and provide timely updates to stakeholders and team leaders.
Requirements
- Active Cisco CCNP certification (Routing & Switching or Enterprise) is required.
- Minimum of 5 years’ direct experience in enterprise network engineering with proficiency in LAN and WAN technologies.
- Demonstrated expertise configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers and switches (IOS/IOS-XE), including Catalyst series switches and Cisco ASR/ISR routers.
- Practical knowledge of network refresh and migration projects, including preparation, planning, and execution of cutover events.
- Strong understanding of key networking protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP/RSTP, VLAN, 802.1Q, HSRP/VRRP.
- Familiarity with WAN technologies such as MPLS, SD-WAN, DMVPN, and IPsec VPN.
- Experience using enterprise network management and monitoring tools such as Cisco DNA Center, Cisco Prime Infrastructure, SolarWinds, and packet capture/diagnostic tools (NetFlow, SNMP, Wireshark, etc.).
- Knowledge of documentation and ITSM platforms, including Visio, ServiceNow, or equivalent tools.
- Understanding of change management, standards compliance, and network documentation best practices.
- Previous experience supporting manufacturing or distributed site environments is advantageous.
- A track record of successfully troubleshooting and resolving technical issues in dynamic and fast-paced settings.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams, stakeholders, and project leads.
- Availability to work onsite in Warren, MI, five days per week for the duration of the engagement.
- Preferred: familiarity with Cisco wireless infrastructure and technologies., * Active Cisco CCNP (Routing & Switching or Enterprise) certification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted
- 5+ years in enterprise network engineering roles
