Job description

Orrick Labs is seeking a Legal Solutions Architect to design, develop, and deploy custom software solutions that support legal workflows across the firm. This role will serve as Orrick Labs’ primary pro-code development resource, building applications, integrations, APIs, automation services, data pipelines, and user-facing solutions that extend and complement the team’s low-code capabilities.

The role requires strong software engineering skills and the ability to translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical solutions. It will also require combining pro-code development, Microsoft platform agentic AI capabilities, and low-code tools into practical, secure, and maintainable solutions.

The Legal Solutions Architect will partner closely with attorneys, business professionals, Innovation, IT, and external vendors to develop production-ready solutions that solve complex operational challenges and accelerate the firm’s strategic objectives. Responsibilities

  • Determine when a business problem is best solved through custom software development, low-code technologies, AI agents, or a hybrid approach, and design solutions accordingly.
  • Build and deploy Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers that securely expose firm tools and data as needed to the firm’s internal AI agents.
  • Design, develop, and deploy custom software applications that support legal workflows.
  • Architect and build APIs, integration services, and middleware that connect firm systems, third-party applications, and cloud platforms.
  • Develop secure, scalable backend services using modern programming languages and cloud-native development practices.
  • Design and implement automation solutions using a combination of pro-code and low-code technologies.
  • Design andmaintainintegrations using REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth2, JSON schemas, and cross-platform authentication patterns.
  • Create reusable software components, libraries, and technical frameworks to accelerate future development efforts.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements, evaluate technical approaches, and deliver solutions aligned with firm priorities.
  • Design application architecture, deployment strategies, and environment management processes from development through production.
  • Develop andmaintaintechnical documentation, architectural diagrams, and implementation plans.
  • Establish testing, monitoring, debugging, and support practices for custom solutions.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, development frameworks, and AI platforms to determineappropriate businessapplications.
  • Refactor local automation scripts into secure, self-service cloud endpoints for consumption by agents and low-code automation tools, such as Power Automate
  • Collaborate with IT, Information Security, and Governance teams to ensure solutions adhere to firm standards and requirements.
  • Support AI initiatives where custom engineering, integrations, APIs, and infrastructure arerequiredto move solutions into production.
  • Evaluate, prototype, integrate, and deploy agents, copilots, and AI-enabled workflow solutions using Microsoft Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, and related Microsoft technologies.
  • Stay apprised of best practices related to designing, testing, deploying, governing, and monitoring AI agents and copilots.

Requirements

  • 3-6 years of experience in software development, solutions engineering, application development, or a related technical role.
  • Strong programming foundation in C#/.NET, Python, JavaScript, and related web technologies.
  • Hands-on experience building custom applications, APIs, integrations, automation solutions, or cloud-based services.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Power Platform, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, authentication protocols, JSON schemas, and cross-platform integrations.
  • Strong debugging, documentation, problem-solving, and cross-team collaboration skills.

  • Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Automate, Power Apps, and Dataverse.
  • Copilot Studio.
  • Azure AI Foundry or comparable AI orchestration platforms.
  • Playwright or similar browser automation tools, including Selenium or Puppeteer.
  • Document processing libraries such asAsposeor equivalent technologies.

Databases

  • SQL querying and optimization.
  • NoSQLfamiliaritywith non-relational data modeling.

Web Development

  • HTML/CSS/JavaScript custom development.
  • A modern component-based web framework (e.g., React or Svelte)
  • Wireframing and logic design.

Architecture & Engineering Practices

  • Designing stateless and standalone services and understanding service boundaries.
  • Deployment topology and environment management from sandbox to production.
  • Ability to clearly document architecture and technicalplansfor non-technical stakeholders.
  • Essential understanding of AI resource management and cost governance.

  • All Other US Locations $101,000 - $140,000

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick’s estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
