Job description

As a Senior Platform & Developer Experience Engineer within the PMSO team, you are at the heart of Alliander’s digital transformation. As System Operations shifts towards Grid-As-A-Service (GaaS) deployed on top of the Siemens GridScaleX (GSX), your primary mission is to evolve and re-architect our delivery mechanics, maximize developer velocity, embed seamless pipeline security, and build the scaffolding that enables microservices to ship safely at scale.

While PMSO’s dedicated observability specialists focus on Elastic, OpenTelemetry, and APM analytics, you will guide the Platform Engineering, DevSecOps, and Release Automation side of the equation. You will operate with a high degree of technical autonomy-shaping delivery architectures, building local developer tooling, and helping shape future multi-DSO scaling models.

We are creating the energy grid of the future, for everyone, with everyone. And as a platform & developer experience engineer you can play your part in this. Your role will involve:

  • Platform Architecture & Delivery: Enhance and scale CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows (ArgoCD), and internal developer tooling. Build automation in Python and Java to streamline deployments, validation, and dependency management.
  • DevSecOps & Security: Integrate security controls such as image scanning, secret management, access policies, and automated validation directly into developer workflows.
  • Infrastructure & Operations: Support platform operations and incident triage, resolve pipeline bottlenecks, and translate developer requirements into clear RFCs for platform vendors.
  • Multi-DSO & Observability: Contribute to API-driven delivery solutions for external DSOs and ensure platforms provide the telemetry and monitoring capabilities needed for reliable operations.

You complete our network

Did you know that Alliander is made up of different business units? With our large group of talented professionals, we develop and manage the energy grid for millions of people and businesses in the Netherlands. Everything we do, we do with an eye on the people who rely on us: our customers. And thanks to our talents, we have the utmost confidence in the energy future of the Netherlands. Together with you, we make the energy transition possible, for and with our customers.

You will be working at our Liander Alliander business unit. Here, you will work on the management, maintenance or construction of our electricity and gas networks. Safety is always our top priority: you ensure safety in your daily work and we ensure that you are supported in this.

In this way, we supply energy to households, businesses and our other customers in a safe and reliable manner. Monitoring our energy network is only possible with the right motivation. We offer an inspiring working environment that will energise you in your day-to-day work. The System Operations department is made up of smart and committed professionals.

Requirements

Please note that for this role we are searching for someone who is already living in the Netherlands and is proficient in the use of the English language on C1 level. No use of the Dutch language is required but it is preferred., You combine a pragmatic mindset with a healthy dose of critical thinking. You’re able to identify risks, bottlenecks, and scalability challenges before they become real issues, and you proactively design solutions that keep platforms reliable and future-proof. At the same time, you’re passionate about improving the developer experience and measure success by enabling engineering teams to deliver software faster, safer, and with less friction. You thrive in environments where not everything is defined yet, enjoy bringing structure to complex challenges, and are comfortable helping shape platform standards and future-state architectures as they evolve. Working with the latest technologies and innovations. With your talent and strengths, you can do that at our company. Will you contribute with your critical perspective and innovative solutions? Great especially if you add the following:

  • 5+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevSecOps, SRE, Release Engineering, or a similar role within a complex enterprise, critical infrastructure, or regulated environment.
  • Strong expertise in Kubernetes, GitOps, and cloud-native platforms, with hands-on experience in Helm, ArgoCD, AWS, Terraform, and deployment patterns such as App-of-Apps.
  • Proven experience designing, modernizing, and operating CI/CD ecosystems, including pipeline-as-code (e.g. GitHub Actions), release management, semantic versioning, automation, and self-service developer platforms.
  • Solid software engineering and automation skills, including Python and/or Java, Infrastructure as Code, API integrations, security automation, secret management, image scanning, and application troubleshooting.
  • Strong DevOps mindset focused on security, reliability, and developer experience, with experience in DevSecOps, observability, monitoring, and cross-team collaboration.

You energise our network

Benefits & conditions

  • A gross monthly salary between €5.4166,- and €6]7,737,- (scale 10) depending on your knowledge and experience
  • annually an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 18% (full time) or 12.8% (part time) of your gross annual salary, including holiday allowance;
  • 24.5 days’ holiday per year, which can be topped up generously from your IKB;
