Job description

We are recruiting on behalf of an innovative technology client for a talented Lead Software Test Engineer to join their growing software development team.

This is an exciting opportunity to take a lead role within the software testing function, helping to establish testing standards, improve processes and define the scope of testing across a range of connected products and software applications.

You will work closely with software developers and wider technical teams across areas including electronics hardware, embedded software, mobile applications, web applications and backend services.

Alongside manual product testing, you will also be involved in API testing, unit testing, automation and cloud-based applications. The work you undertake will be critical to ensuring the quality, reliability and success of the client’s products and services., ·Own and execute software testing activities and produce test plan documentation for mobile applications, web applications and REST APIs.

·Champion and continually improve testing best practices, strategies and processes.

·Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to ensure requirements are clearly understood and testable.

·Contribute to Continuous Integration pipelines, including component builds and testing.

·Create test stories and scenarios based on specifications and developer input.

·Carry out manual testing across mobile applications, including functional, regression and stress testing.

·Create and execute automated unit tests for software and APIs.

·Perform testing and validation of embedded software.

·Record and document test results, working closely with developers to identify issues and establish root causes.

·Help define and maintain effective test strategies and regression test suites.

·Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other members of the testing team.

Requirements

·Strong problem-solving, analytical and technical troubleshooting skills.

·Proven experience developing test plans and regression test suites.

·Experience testing functionality, usability, performance and REST APIs.

·Experience implementing and working with test systems and testing tools.

·Experience with containerised technologies such as Docker.

·Experience using test case management systems such as TestRail or similar.

·Experience with defect management processes.

·Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·Ability to work independently and take ownership of testing activities.

·ISTQB certification or equivalent.

·Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.

·Previous experience mentoring, supporting or guiding a small testing team.

Desirable Skills & Experience

·Experience with unit testing.

·Experience testing both iOS and Android mobile applications.

·Experience testing embedded software and connected products.

·Experience producing technical documentation for internal and external audiences.

·Experience with test automation tools such as Appium or similar frameworks.
