Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: The MTSS Specialist is a highly qualified and collaborative educator responsible for providing leadership and support to enhance MTSS processes and improve outcomes for all students. This individual will work directly with students, teachers, administrators, and parents to implement evidence-based interventions, provide professional development, and foster a school-wide culture of academic achievement. The MTSS Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring all students develop and maintain strong foundational skills., ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Employee must have the ability to perform the following essential functions on a timely basis with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Direct Student Support:

  • Provide targeted, evidence-based interventions to individual students and small groups who are struggling with academics (including reading and math), behavior, or social-emotional skills.
  • Conduct assessments to identify students’ strengths and areas for growth, using a variety of diagnostic tools and progress monitoring measures.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to align interventions with classroom instruction and individual student needs.
  • Monitor student progress regularly and adjust interventions based on data.
  • Communicate student progress and intervention strategies effectively with teachers, parents, and administrators.

  • Teacher Support and Collaboration:

  • Serve as a resource for classroom teachers, guiding effective reading instruction, differentiation strategies, and the selection of appropriate instructional materials.
  • Collaborate with teachers in planning, implementing, and evaluating instruction.
  • Model effective instructional strategies and provide coaching and feedback to teachers in their classrooms.
  • Participate in grade-level and school-wide meetings to discuss goals, student progress, and instructional strategies.
  • Assist teachers in analyzing student assessment data to inform instructional decisions.

  • Professional Development and Leadership:

  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with research-based best practices in instruction.
  • Facilitate and/or co-facilitate professional development opportunities for teachers.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives and goals.
  • Advocate for the needs of all students.

  • Assessment and Data Analysis:

  • Administer and interpret a variety of assessments, including universal screeners, diagnostic assessments, and progress monitoring tools.
  • Analyze school-wide and individual student data to identify trends, needs, and the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Use data to inform instructional decisions, program development, and professional development planning.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports on student progress.

  • Communication and Collaboration:

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with parents to support their child’s development at home.
  • Work collaboratively with special education staff, English Language Learner (ELL) specialists, and other support personnel to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and other student support team meetings as needed.

  • Program Management:

  • Assist in the selection and management of instructional materials and resources.
  • Maintain accurate records of student assessments, interventions, and progress monitoring data.
  • Ensure compliance with district and state initiatives.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily.

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Education (Master’s Degree preferred)
  2. Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification (Reading Specialist and/or Special Education Certification preferred)
  3. Minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  4. Deep understanding of evidence-based reading research and best practices in literacy instruction.
  5. Experience in administering and interpreting a variety of literacy assessments.
  6. Demonstrated ability to provide effective interventions in reading and mathematics.
  7. Strong collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  8. Ability to analyze data and use it to inform instruction.
  9. Experience in providing professional development to teachers (preferred).
  10. Proficiency in using technology to support instruction and data management.

  11. Knowledge of differentiated instruction and strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  12. Compliant with Act 114, Act 34, and Act 151 background clearances for employment.
  13. Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with other teachers, administrators, parents, students, support staff, and outside professional contacts., 1. Comprehensive knowledge of reading development, including phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  14. Skill in administering and interpreting various assessments (e.g., running records, diagnostic reading and math assessments).
  15. Ability to design and implement effective, evidence-based interventions.
  16. Skill in collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents.
  17. Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  18. Ability to analyze and interpret student data to inform instruction.
  19. Strong organizational and time management skills.
  20. Proficiency in using educational technology and software.
  21. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  22. Commitment to the academic success of all students., 1. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift to 20 pounds.
  23. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  24. Must have adequate visual acuity to read and analyze data.
  25. May be required to work in various classroom and office settings.

  2. May experience frequent interruptions.
  3. Noise levels may vary.
