- Splice various types and sizes of fiber optic cable, including single-mode, multimode, stranded, and ribbon
- Analyze and troubleshoot basic technical problems and issues
- Review, interpret, and work with maps, drawings, blueprints, and testing documents
- Perform daily tests, checks, and maintenance of splicing and testing equipment
- Perform optical continuity and conformance testing
- Make splicing rearrangements on existing facilities
- Work across buried, underground, aerial, and building environments
- Follow established safety procedures and work practices
- Collaborate with team members while maintaining the ability to work independently
- Provide direction and supervision to other team members as needed

Requirements
A growing utility construction company is hiring a Fiber Splicer for its Richmond, VA operation. This is a full-time opportunity for an experienced telecommunications professional with hands-on expertise in fiber optic splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance. The ideal candidate will have experience working with single-mode, multimode, stranded, and ribbon fiber and be comfortable using industry-standard equipment including EXFO, Fitel, and Sumitomo., * High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field
- Hands-on experience with fiber optic splicing and testing
- Experience using fusion splicing and optical testing equipment, including EXFO, Fitel, and Sumitomo
- Knowledge of single-mode and multimode fiber
- Knowledge of universal communications color codes
- Ability to read and interpret maps, drawings, blueprints, and testing documentation
- Ability to troubleshoot basic technical problems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Ability to supervise or provide direction to other team members
Desired Skills & Experience
- Bucket truck training
- Confined space training
- Utility pole and manhole awareness
- Experience working in buried, underground, aerial, and building environments
- Knowledge of CAT 3 and CAT 5 cabling
- Knowledge of riser, fiber optic, PVC, riser-rated, and plenum cable
- Understanding of plenum and PVC environments
- Experience performing optical continuity and conformance testing
