Job description

Learn more about CESD here., The Systems Infrastructure Engineer’s role is to install, configure, administer, optimize, and support systems and related components to achieve reliability and performance from the various Clackamas ESD supported applications and services both on-premises and in the cloud. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the systems environments. Particular emphasis is placed on integrating disparate systems with varying locations and methods of data exchange. The Systems Infrastructure Engineer will assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data center/server farm. This position focuses on both client/partner and county/state-wide systems., * Design, develop, evaluate, build, modify, test and configure enterprise software, systems, databases, devices, applications, products and patches to integrate into networked systems for clients; support county, consortium, and state systems.
- Provide a secure, compliant, robust, reliable, scalable and efficient infrastructure ensuring availability of client systems.
- Assist in maintaining data center/server room security features, including environmental alarms, access restrictions, and policies. Requires onsite work.
- Maintain confidentiality of both design of system infrastructure and architecture as well as data the systems contain.
- Resolve complex technical problems that are escalated beyond the expertise of the Systems Infrastructure I staff.
- Design, evaluate, build, modify, test and configure computer infrastructure, either on-premises, within data center, or in the public cloud as client requires.
- Design, evaluate, build, modify, test and configure backup/disaster recovery infrastructure, either on-premises, within data center, or in the public cloud as client requires.
- Design, evaluate, build, modify, test and configure SAN storage infrastructure, either on-premises, within data center, or in the public cloud as client requires.
- Automate repeatable tasks for infrastructure, such as system image creation and software patching, by writing, modifying, testing, deploying and documenting scripts or script logic.
- Define and implement solutions for integrating disparate systems.
- Plan and execute upgrades and patches for all software, applications and supporting tools; push patches, updates, and other enterprise software and applications using on-premises and cloud-based solutions; plan, create, manage and deploy application, security, configuration, power and device management settings and group policies.
- Integrate and manage identity management software.
- Implement procedures and technologies (including firewalls) to ensure security as required by client’s management and CESD’s management.
- Design, evaluate, build, modify, test and configure disaster recovery hardware, software, and/or scripts to restore systems in the event of a disaster to the expected disaster recovery service level.
- Change and ensure integrity and availability of both internal and external DNS.
- Work with clients, manufacturers, and vendors of hardware, software and application products, clients and other project stakeholders for installations, deployments and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate and collaborate with clients and CESD network engineers, analysts, and customer service functions to ensure availability, reliability, and performance of servers to meet client expectations. Requires onsite work.
- Conduct research on system hardware, software, and protocols in support of procurement and development efforts
- Participate in obtaining bids and creating requests for proposals to assure technical requirements and content needs are met and that devices will properly integrate with district’s enterprise software, applications and other related systems; maintain collaborative relationship with vendors, software manufacturers and

- Strong documentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences, and documentation follows department documentation standards.
- Communicate clearly with non-technical audiences to understand client needs, and follows up to ensure solutions meet client expectations.
- Create and collaborate on solutions (code, hardware integration, etc.) that teammates can understand and change as needed, creating sustainable solutions using best practices that do not rely upon the creator.
- Use source control to store critical syntax, configuration, scripts, code, documentation, test plans, and software that affects any product, operation or research procedures.
- Continuously drive to troubleshoot issues with data and software, utilizing outside resources to help (e.g. internet searches) and increasing technical sophistication with every problem solved.
- Stay current and proficient in the latest industry technology tools, data management techniques, principles, languages, frameworks, software, and research practices.
Requirements
- At least four years’ equivalent work experience in a position responsible for managing enterprise server environments
- Advanced knowledge and recent successful experience with Linux and Microsoft Windows Server environments
- Recent successful experience administering and deploying hypervisor virtualization technologies
- Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining all manner of server hardware and associated network equipment, including local and network-based storage technologies
- Experience configuring and managing Active Directory environments and other identity management solutions
- Experience with Linux and Windows server performance tuning and monitoring tools
- Understanding of TCP/IP network protocols, firewall management, and operating system configurations
- Working technical knowledge of scripting code using Linux and Windows server scripting languages and tools
- Working knowledge of load balancing, clustering, and web application security
- Working knowledge of managing database environments, such as Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL
- Experience administering DNS, using BIND and Microsoft DNS as an example
- Good written and oral communication skills; good interpersonal skills
- Ability to conduct research into server issues and products as required
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to solve problems and to effectively prioritize work in the face of changing priorities and emergency situations
- Strong customer service orientation
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience deploying and managing enterprise backup and web application hosting software
- Experience managing database environments, such as Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL
- Bilingual. Bilingual candidates must pass a language proficiency assessment at an intermediate high to advanced level per CESD guidelines to be eligible for bilingual salary placement, *Range 26 is for bilingual candidates who pass a language proficiency assessment at an intermediate high to advanced level in any of the major languages of our service communities (Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin, and American Sign Language)
Benefits & conditions
Salary: Range 25/26* of the Classified Salary Schedule. New hires are eligible to start at up to Step 4 depending on experience, per the Classified Collective Bargaining Agreement. $39.70 - $45.50 per hour.

Retirement plan contributions: Clackamas ESD employees working 600 or more hours in a calendar year are eligible for the Oregon Public Employee Retirement, or PERS. There are two components to PERS, including the pension, which is primarily funded by CESD and The Individual Account Program, or IAP, which is funded by a six-percent deduction from your paycheck. If you are new to PERS, your PERS deduction will begin automatically after a six-month waiting period.
