Job description

Designs, develops, implements, verifies and tests algorithms and software and simulation tools to perform guidance, navigation and control of aircraft, spacecraft, submersibles, surface ships, missiles, launch vehicles and upper stages during powered and coast phases of launch, flight, earth orbit, interplanetary cruise and orbital insertion, as well as during staging events. Navigation functions include the statistical processing of measured data points and their substitution into algorithms simulating physical reality. Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations to achieve a desired position, orientation or orbit in space. Control design and analyses processes consist of the development of the control laws and hardware and software requirements for aircraft, launch vehicles and/or spacecraft.

Requirements

  • Using first principles to develop math models of physical systems
  • Classical methods for analysis and synthesis of control algorithms
  • Modern (state space) methods for analysis and synthesis of control algorithms
  • Optimal control techniques
  • Working experience with guidance algorithms
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink software tools and related toolboxes
  • Implementation of control/navigation algorithms in a real hardware application system
  • Test performance predictions and test data reconciliation
  • Model reduction techniques
  • Hardware, field test and Defense/Aerospace domain experience is a plus., * Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Systems Engineering or a closely related STEM discipline
  • 12 years of relevant experience, Master of Science degree in engineering discipline or closely related field of study plus 10 years of relevant experience, or Ph.D. in engineering discipline or closely related field of study plus 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in model development, requirements definition, GNC algorithm analysis and synthesis and familiarity with both modern and classical control design techniques. Minimum years’ experience depends on education level
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Benefits & conditions

Primary Level Salary Range: $169,000.00 - $253,600.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business., + $108,800-163,200 per year
