Job description
This position is for a junior system security engineer (SSE) to provide security engineering support within BAE Systems, Inc. Space & Mission Systems (SMS) Sector. The SSE supports ongoing programs by managing cyber requirements, validating technical security implementations, and supporting Assessment & Authorization efforts pursuant to gaining and/or maintaining system Authorizations to Operate (ATO).
The Engineering, Science, and Analysis Strategic Capabilities Unit Mission Assurance department delivers critical assurance disciplines that protect and enable people, data and missions. We provide a comprehensive approach to managing risk across the enterprise for current and future information environments where the business and missions are executed. We apply the use of innovative tools and robust processes to ensure mission and business success.
What You ll Do:
- Support a comprehensive and holistic Systems Security Engineering (SSE) view while addressing stakeholder security risks and concerns through the application of Systems Engineering skills.
- Support detailed cyber security designs using recognized practices such as Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and processes.
- Support the identification, review, and define cyber security requirements that enable technical Architects / Systems Engineers and SMEs the ability to secure hardware and software products.
- Create a culture of Security that implements security from the beginning of a program s development and supports the implementation of security by default.
- Ensure the effectiveness and suitability of the security elements within the systems as an enabler to mission success.
- Develop, review, and recommend security policy, guidance, training, and best practices that align its implementation across the mission acquisition lifecycle.
- Support briefings to senior leadership and SMEs on program protection and security policy, guidance, and expectation in the area of SSE.
- Support the development of Program Protection Implementation Plans (PPIPs), Anti-Tamper Plans (AT Plan) and other program protection designs in accordance with DoD Anti-Tamper Technical Implementation Guide (AT TIG)
- Collaborate on the development and execution of an SSE Plan containing a path to creating Threat Countermeasure Tree Analysis.
- Efficiently learn new subjects / techniques / software, without, necessarily, the assistance of others.
- Write clear and concise reports.
- Support other tasks and areas of subject matter expertise, to include the Trusted & Assured Microelectronics (T&AM) program, Anti-Tamper, and Software Security Assurance, with Design Engineering subject matter expertise as required.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Capability Units (SCUs), and the Company.
- Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cybersecurity Engineering, or a related technical field is strongly preferred plus 2 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level-related degree, i.e., M.S. or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- 2 or more years of continuous, related, progressive experience in the Systems Security Engineering (SSE) discipline is desired.
- DoD 8570 / DoD 8140 compliant security certification.
- In addition to the typical educational and experience requirements, the successful candidate must possess a demonstrated capability to adequately perform the essential functions and responsibilities of the position and to exhibit the skills and competencies of the grade level.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, strong written, communication, oral presentations skills, and ability to lead group discussions.
- Department of Defense (DoD) / Intelligence Community (IC) experience basic understanding of how engineering and security work within the DoD / IC.
- Proven work experience implementing SSE solutions.
- Basic understanding of firmware, gateware, and software.
- Previous experience developing threat analysis.
- Have a track record of highly collaborative working skills in a team environment.
- A current DoD Secret or TS security clearance.
- Applicants selected will be subject to a Government Security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Previous experience in the field of Cybersecurity.
- Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience.
- Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) experience.
- A TS/SCI security clearance is strongly preferred.
- CASP CE, CSSLP, CISSP, or ISSEP certifications
- Familiarization with Cloud-based security solutions, AWS preferred.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity design principles applicable to Space Vehicles.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity design principles applicable to embedded systems.
- Knowledge of the Space Attack Research and Tactic Analysis (SPARTA) matrix
- Experience with the MITRE ATT&CK Framework
- Familiarization with US Space Force cybersecurity policy, processes, and requirements.

- May access other facilities in various weather conditions, Full-Time Salary Range: $79365 - $134921
