Job description
Our client is seeking a Sr. Embedded Linux Platform Engineer to take technical ownership of the low-level Linux platform supporting a new generation of secure, purpose-built hardware products. This is a highly hands-on engineering position for someone who works comfortably at the intersection of embedded Linux, custom hardware and production systems. The ideal candidate has personally helped take (and can explain/demonstrate their contribution) new embedded hardware from initial board bring-up through a stable, secure, production-ready platform. You’ll work directly with hardware and software engineering teams and have significant ownership over the Linux platform, BSPs, hardware interfaces, system performance and platform security., * Configure and customize Linux kernels, device trees, bootloaders and root file systems for embedded hardware platforms.
- Develop and maintain Board Support Packages (BSPs) across new hardware and board revisions.
- Develop or adapt kernel drivers and user-space services when existing interfaces are insufficient.
- Use schematics, datasheets, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and related lab equipment to troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues.
- Support secure boot, trusted boot processes and platform chain-of-trust architecture.
- Integrate technologies such as TPMs, secure elements and hardware-backed security capabilities.
- Integrate and optimize high-speed Ethernet and PCIe-connected networking.
- Configure Ethernet controllers, PHYs and associated Linux drivers.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional Embedded Linux development experience.
- Strong C programming and debugging skills in embedded or hardware-adjacent environments.
- Hands-on experience with Buildroot and/or Yocto.
- Strong working knowledge of Linux kernel configuration, device trees, BSPs, bootloaders such as U-Boot, kernel modules and driver integration.
- Experience bringing new embedded hardware platforms or board revisions into Linux.
- Hands-on experience with several hardware interfaces such as I²C, SPI, UART, GPIO, PCIe, USB, DMA and interrupts.
- Ability to read schematics and datasheets and troubleshoot hardware using appropriate lab equipment.
- Experience with Linux networking, Ethernet controllers/drivers and network performance.
- Experience delivering embedded platforms that progressed beyond prototype development into production or customer-facing products.
- Strong Git and software configuration-management practices.
