Job description
Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer - HW Integration Lead in Huntsville, Alabama. The ideal candidate is a team player; but also, a strong independent contributor with strong leadership skills, demonstrated problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, as well as interpersonal and organizational skills and a proactive, detail-oriented approach. What You’ll Get to Do: Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the SLCM-N hardware integration during the Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction (TMRR) phase, providing technical leadership for complex, shipboard hardware assemblies.
- Lead technical planning, requirements development, allocation, and traceability for integrated electromechanical assemblies, ensuring alignment with customer, weapon system, and interface requirements.
- Review model-based systems engineering (MBSE) artifacts in Cameo (e.g., system/subsystem behavioral and structural models, interface definitions) to ensure alignment with technical baseline.
- Oversee verification and validation strategy development, including verification methods, test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria for integrated hardware assemblies.
- Perform system integration and hardware-software integration planning and execution, including support to lab integration, troubleshooting, anomaly resolution, and configuration control.
- Drive technical rigor in completion and development of functional analysis, trade studies, risk and opportunity assessments, and impact analyses to support design decisions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional IPTs (hardware, software, manufacturing, test, operations, logistics, specialty engineering) to ensure designs are producible, testable, and supportable across the system lifecycle.
- Review systems engineering artifacts (e.g., theory of operations, interface control documents, assembly description documents, installation and integration documents) for assigned hardware products.
- Provide subject matter expertise of the technical baseline, providing guidance to hardware design responsible engineers and represent the program in internal and external senior-level technical reviews.

Requirements
- Bachelors degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 12 years of relevant experience, OR a Masters degree and 10 years of relevant experience, OR a PhD and 8 years of relevant experience.
- Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret Clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
- Experience applying systems engineering processes across the full lifecycle (concept through test and integration) for complex hardware-intensive or weapon systems, including requirements development, decomposition, and verification.
- Experience in conceptual design and development including rapid prototyping and testing to support fast-paced missile development., * Active DoD Top Secret Clearance
- Electromechanical system design and development experience, including support to manufacturing, integration, and test of complex hardware assemblies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead design teams on fast-paced development and prototyping efforts.
- Strong communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to convey critical thinking to others in a way that improves their performance and product development.
- Multidisciplined technical breadth across systems, hardware, software, and specialty engineering (e.g., reliability, safety, logistics) for complex defense systems.

This position’s standard work schedule is 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. Primary Level Salary Range: $169,000.00 - $253,600.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business., + $131,300-237,350 per year
