Job description
We are seeking a motivated Data Center Technician I to join our team, focused on the hardware and physical infrastructure side of data center builds. This role is hands-on from day one - pulling and terminating cable, installing infrastructure, and racking and stacking equipment. You’ll work alongside experienced technicians on active installs, gaining real-world exposure to enterprise data center builds while helping deliver clean, reliable infrastructure. Responsibilities
- Pull, route, dress, and terminate structured cabling (copper and fiber) throughout the data center
- Install physical infrastructure, including racks, cable trays, ladder rack, conduit, and cage/pod build-outs
- Rack and stack servers, switches, storage, and other hardware according to install plans and documentation
- Label and organize cabling and equipment to meet facility standards
- Read and work from install diagrams, cabling schedules, and work orders
- Move, position, and mount heavy equipment safely using proper lifting and rigging techniques
- Perform basic testing and verification of installed cable runs (continuity, certification as trained)
- Follow all safety protocols and facility security procedures during install work
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of debris throughout installs
- Assist senior technicians and project leads on larger build-outs and infrastructure upgrades
- Accurately document completed work, including as-built updates and install checklists
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in cabling, electrical, or a related trade a plus
- Comfortable with hands-on physical work: pulling cable, climbing ladders, working in tight spaces (under-floor, overhead, cage environments)
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs regularly, and heavier items with assistance
- Ability to bend, kneel, stand, and work overhead for extended periods
- Basic understanding of structured cabling, racking, and data center hardware a plus (will train)
- Comfortable working in a data center environment (varying temperatures, noise levels)
- Willingness to work assigned shifts, including potential nights, weekends, or on-call rotations as needed
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow install plans and documentation precisely
- Good communication skills and ability to work well as part of an install crew
- Reliable transportation and ability to pass a background check
Preferred (not required):
- Prior experience pulling cable, racking equipment, or working on data center/telecom installs
- BICSI training or certification
- Familiarity with fiber and copper termination, testing, and certification
- Experience reading construction or infrastructure install drawings
