Job description
As a Backend Developer at PwC, you’ll build and improve innovative digital products used by colleagues and clients, such as data-heavy applications and AI/agentic solutions. You’ll deliver features end-to-end, from translating designs and user stories into working software, to testing, deployment support and continuous improvement. You’ll join a self-steering agile team with backend, frontend, design and product ownership, where you can take ownership of software that matters.
What will you be doing?
You’ll become part of an agile,team, working hybrid from our offices in Amsterdam and/or Utrecht. The team collaborates with various tech teams in the different Lines of Service. Together with your team, you’re responsible for creating new solutions from ideation to production with a strong focus on (Agentic) AI. This means you’re involved in developing new features, integrating systems, and scaling and improving solutions, all with the aim of quickly delivering innovative digital products without compromising on quality.
Your work will include:

Developing backend functionality for innovation products, primarily with Python (Django and/or FastAPI).

Translating designs and user stories into working software.
-
Delivering features end-to-end, including testing and deployment support.
-
Building and maintaining components, APIs, integrations and backend services.
-
Integrating frontend components with backend APIs and data services.
-
Writing clean, secure, maintainable and scalable code.
-
Writing unit tests and supporting integration/regression testing.
-
Performing peer reviews and contributing to overall code quality.
-
Supporting troubleshooting, bug fixing and performance improvements.
-
Identifying technical risks, dependencies and improvement opportunities.

Contributing to CI/CD, DevOps practices and Agile/Scrum events.

Documenting technical decisions and implementation details;
You’ll work closely with the Product Owner, Business Analyst/Designer, Tester and Tech Lead. Some projects you might be prototyping a brand-new idea from scratch, or you could be further developing existing products or exploring how agentic AI can solve a real business problem or need.
Requirements

What you bring (must-haves):

Minimum of 3 years of software development experience
-
Bachelor’s level of working and thinking in a relevant field
-
Strong knowledge of Python, with solid experience in Django and/or FastAPI.

Solid understanding of backend development, Good understanding of REST APIs, databases (SQL)
-
Experience with AI, LLMs, or agentic solutions.
-
Experience with unit and integration testing
-
Familiarity with Git, pull requests and code reviews
-
Experience with Docker and containerized environments
-
Experience mentoring or advising peers on development practices
-
Experience working in Agile/Scrum (and/or SAFe) environments
-
Knowledge of security best practices and development standards

Ability to independently deliver features based on functional designs
-
Good analytical, communication and collaboration skills
-
A proactive mindset and comfort working with changing requirements
Nice to have:
-
Experience with vector databases.
-
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

Experience with Azure (AKS, Azure DevOps) or similar cloud environments.

Familiarity with frontend frameworks (React or similar frameworks)
-
Experience or additional knowledge related to Data Science or Data Architecture
