Data Pipeline Remediation

Investigate performance and reliability issues affecting data pipelines.

Diagnose failures, bottlenecks and other data processing problems.

Identify root causes rather than simply addressing symptoms.

Develop and implement remediation activities.

Monitor the effectiveness of remediation and confirm that issues have been resolved.

Identify recurring problems and recommend longer-term improvements.

Troubleshoot data extraction, transformation and loading processes.

Investigate issues across upstream and downstream data dependencies.

Work collaboratively with technical teams to resolve complex data issues.

Database Performance & DBA

A significant element of the role will involve database performance investigation and remediation.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Analyse database performance issues.

Identify SQL queries, processes and workloads contributing to performance problems.

Undertake SQL performance tuning and optimisation.

Review execution plans and query performance.

Identify indexing and database design issues.

Investigate resource utilisation and database bottlenecks.

Review database structures and data access patterns.

Recommend and implement appropriate performance improvements.

Monitor database performance following remediation.

Apply sound DBA principles to improve reliability and performance.

Troubleshoot complex database issues independently.

The role requires someone with practical DBA knowledge and performance-tuning experience, rather than someone whose experience is limited to database development.

Cerner/Oracle Health Data

Deep practical understanding of Cerner/Oracle Health data is essential.

The successful candidate will need to understand the structure, relationships and characteristics of Cerner data and how it is consumed within an NHS data warehouse environment.

This includes:

Understanding Cerner/Oracle Health data structures.

Understanding how Cerner data is extracted and transformed.

Working with Cerner-derived data within a data warehouse.

Understanding relationships between clinical and operational datasets.

Investigating data quality and data integrity issues.

Understanding the impact of source-system changes on downstream data pipelines.

Troubleshooting issues involving Cerner data feeds and transformations.

Working with stakeholders to understand the clinical and operational context of data issues., Stored procedures and database functions.

Data transformation.

Data validation.

Troubleshooting complex SQL.

Identifying inefficient queries and processing.

Developing efficient and maintainable SQL solutions.

The requirement is for a candidate who can use SQL as a primary troubleshooting and analytical tool rather than simply write routine queries.

Although this is a highly technical role, strong interpersonal and stakeholder-management skills are essential.

The consultants will work with relevant stakeholders across the Trust to understand requirements, investigate problems and establish the desired outcomes.

Responsibilities will include:

Engaging with technical, operational and business stakeholders.

Gathering and documenting requirements.

Understanding the business context behind technical issues.

Asking appropriate questions to establish root causes and requirements.

Translating business requirements into technical solutions.

Explaining technical issues in clear, non-technical language where required.

The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working directly with stakeholders and should have strong communication and soft skills.

Improved reliability of data pipelines.

Improved understanding of data flows and dependencies.

Requirements documentation.

Technical recommendations and remediation plans.

Stakeholder updates and progress reporting.

Knowledge transfer to relevant Trust teams where appropriate., Some travel to the Trust’s site will be required, initially to:

Collect the company laptop and equipment.

Complete any required onboarding.

Attend occasional face-to-face meetings or workshops.

Engage with stakeholders where face-to-face interaction provides value.

The majority of day-to-day activity is expected to be undertaken remotely.

Requirements

We are seeking two experienced Data Consultants/Data Warehouse Developers to support a major NHS data environment.

The successful candidates will be responsible for the investigation and remediation of performance issues and other problems affecting data pipelines, data warehouse processes and associated data services.

This is a highly hands-on role requiring a strong combination of:

NHS data experience

Cerner/Oracle Health knowledge

Advanced SQL

Database Administration (DBA) capability

Database performance tuning

Data warehouse development

Data architecture and data structure knowledge

Data pipeline troubleshooting

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

The successful candidates will need to be comfortable diagnosing complex data and database issues, identifying root causes and implementing practical remediation., Minimum of five years’ NHS experience is required.

Candidates should have significant experience working within NHS organisations and should understand the complexities of working with healthcare data within a Trust environment.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience of:

NHS data warehouses.

NHS clinical and operational data., A strong understanding of the operational context in which NHS data is created, processed and consumed will be important.

Advanced SQL

Advanced SQL skills are essential.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate strong practical SQL capability, including:

Complex SQL query development.

Query optimisation.

Performance tuning.

Execution plan analysis., 5+ years’ NHS experience.

Deep understanding of Cerner/Oracle Health data.

Strong experience within an NHS data warehouse environment.

Advanced SQL skills.
