Job description

High Point University Assistant Director of Student Leadership and Governance will serve as the Student Government Association (SGA) Advisor and will assist the Student Experience team with events, communication campaigns, and supporting student leadership. This position advises SGA Executive Cabinet and supervises all SGA-charted organizations affiliated with the university, ensuring that all university guidelines are honored while supporting the university’s mission and strategic plan., * Training, mentoring, and overseeing student leaders within Student Government Association

  • Maintains awareness of all important university dates, major deadlines, and upcoming events
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of the Student Guide to Campus Life, SGA Governing Documents, etc. and ensures they are being followed by student organizations
  • Commitment to ensuring that student organizations follow all university advertising and branding, and event and facility reservation guidelines
  • Reviews and oversees the approval of marketing materials and event plans for all SGA organization endeavors
  • Advises and assists student organizations in planning and organizing special events
  • Oversees SGA financial operations, including management of the SGA budget, advising and supporting the Student Treasurer, facilitating purchasing and payment processes, and ensuring compliance with university financial policies in coordination with appropriate campus partners.
  • Provides guidance and oversight to student organizations and advisors regarding off-campus travel, including interpretation of university policies, support with planning processes, and coordination with appropriate campus partners.
  • Facilitates student organization advisor education, hosts annual advisor training sessions, designs and distributes all advisor-facing communication, and meets with advisors as needed
  • Maintains the SGA and other affiliated websites, ensuring that all information is current and accurate
  • Oversees maintenance and updates of university-wide student organization platform, AirTable, for SGA purposes
  • Provides training materials and educates student leaders, advisors, etc. on AirTable and other platforms to ensure correct usage
  • Contributes to the Monthly Student Events Calendar and ensures all important SGA-related programs are included
  • Attends weekly calendar meetings as a representative of SGA / Student Experience as requested by Associate Vice President for Student Experience
  • Ensures SGA coverage for all Admissions-related events and preview fairs
  • Chaperones major SGA-hosted events and Executive Cabinet retreats, conferences, etc.
  • Assists with organizational misconduct investigations as needed
  • Leads and supports the planning and execution of signature Student Experience programs and events, including biannual Involvement Fairs, LDOC Festival, and other large-scale campus initiatives.
  • Supervises graduate and undergraduate student employees as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Experience and Training

  • Knowledge of HPU and understanding of the university’s culture required

  • 2-3 years of leadership experience preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience in student leadership
  • General understanding of guidelines and processes related to student organizations

Knowledge, Skills, Ability

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Prioritization, organization, and multitasking skills

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with members of the HPU staff, faculty, and various student organizations
  • Experience with supervision of students
  • Experience with budget oversight
  • Proficient in Microsoft products, budgeting software (Clarity), Adobe products, WordPress, and general social media platforms.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including night and weekend hours.
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision, but also effectively contribute to the Student Experience team within the Office of Student Life
  • Capability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
