Job description

Our team is seeking a Enterprise Model-Based Definition (MBD) and Design for Excellence (DFx) Engineer to help implement and scale MBD and DFx capabilities across the enterprise. Blue Origin is actively transitioning new design to model based definition with long term objective of fully model based engineering definition across the Enterprise.

In this role, you will develop practical processes, standards, tools, and workflows that improve how engineering intent is captured in Creo and managed through Windchill. You will work with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Inspection, Supply Chain, and other stakeholders to ensure model-based product definitions are accurate, usable, and capable of supporting downstream automation.

You will also help embed Design for Excellence principles-including manufacturability, assembly, inspection, and producibility-into engineering-definition practices so that issues can be identified earlier in the design process rather than discovered during production.

This is a hands-on engineering and implementation role. The successful candidate will combine Creo, Windchill, GD&T, and MBD expertise with strong cross-functional collaboration, systems thinking, and the ability to help engineers adopt new ways of working.

The role may also support the development of automated design checks, Creo customizations, and AI-enabled engineering assistants. Direct software-development expertise is beneficial but is not required for every candidate.

Passion for our mission and vision is required.

Special Mentions

  • Relocation provided
  • Travel expected up to 15% of the time
  • Shifts available:
  • 1st Shift
  • Interviews will include a technical assessment, Enterprise MBD Implementation
  • Develop and continuously improve MBD standards, processes, templates, and work instructions for parts, assemblies, and installations, ensuring alignment with ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.41, and related engineering-definition standard.
  • Translate the needs of engineering and downstream stakeholders into clear, practical authoring guidance for Creo and Windchill users.
  • Improve the quality and machine-readability of product definitions, and support integration of MBD practices with the broader PLM and model-based engineering environment.

DFx & Downstream Integration

  • Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Inspection, Supply Chain, and Operations to define what downstream users need from engineering definition & translate those needs into design criteria as reflected in MBD standards, templates, design guidance and model checking workflows.
  • Surface producibility and downstream risk earlier in the design cycle through producibility assessments and participation in design reviews.
  • Capture production lessons learned and leverage to identify design rules/requirements, standards/best practice updates and training needs.

Tools & Training Support

  • Identify and prioritize opportunities to reduce manual effort in MBD authoring and model-quality checking.
  • Define use cases for Creo customizations, design-checking tools, and engineering assistants. Partner with Software, PLM, IT, and engineering-tool teams to bring those capabilities into production.
  • Support responsible use of AI for engineering guidance, standards compliance, model validation, DFx recommendations, and retrieval of approved lessons learned.

Adoption & Technical Enablement

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for MBD, Creo, Windchill, GD&T, and engineering-definition practices.
  • Provide hands-on coaching to engineers and designers and help resolve complex authoring issues as they come up (MBD Help Desk support, Teams Channel, etc).
  • Develop and deliver training, documentation, quick-reference guides, example models, and best practices as applicable.
  • Represent MBD and DFx in engineering working groups and communities of practice.
  • Assess recurring user issues and feedback, then translate them into lasting improvements to standards, processes, tools, and training as applicable., Applicants for employment at Blue Origin must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S.as a refugee or granted asylum.
