Job description

Lead software engineering teams responsible for architecture, design, development, sustaining activities for complex medical device software.

Define technical direction, development priorities, and execution plans in alignment with product and business strategy.

Support planning and execution of release milestones, risk management, defect resolution, and continuous improvement while partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions for current and future product releases.

Define, plan, organize, and coordinate software development deliverables across multiple sites in accordance with FDA and other regulatory requirements.

Recruit, coach, mentor, retain, and develop high-performing software engineering talent while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and engineering excellence.

Lead forecasting, effort estimation, resource planning, technical planning, execution, and release activities.

Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing industry-standard software engineering technologies, methods, and tools.
-
Apply software development methodologies, including Agile practices, to improve execution, collaboration, and delivery across the organization.

Champion best practices in software development, architecture, cybersecurity, testability, and documentation.

Oversee definition and implementation of software engineering practices that improve quality, maintainability, scalability, and product performance.

Contribute to product strategy through technical assessment, roadmap input, and tradeoff analysis.
Requirements
-
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience
-
OR an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience.

Demonstrated ability to balance technical leadership, people management, execution discipline, and long-term engineering strategy.
-
Familiarity with Python and C++.
-
Thorough understanding of software architecture, design, implementation, code review, integration, and requirements traceability practices.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Strong knowledge of medical product software development, IEC-62304, and FDA guidance in a technical discipline, preferably software related (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering), with relevant software engineering experience in regulated product development.

Strong understanding of good documentation practices, software lifecycle processes, configuration management, and commonly used engineering management tools.
-
Ability to work with Quality, Regulatory, Systems, Test, and other engineering partners to ensure software deliverables meet product, compliance, and business needs.
-
Ability to work with Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, and Software engineers when discovering, documenting, and resolving integration issues.
-
Experience leading teams that develop complex software systems involving real-time performance, hardware integration, data visualization, or distributed system components.

Experience with embedded software, real-time systems, imaging, mapping, or medical device platforms.

Experience writing technical reports

Strong work ethic and entrepreneurial drive

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$150,400.00 - $225,600.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
