Job description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Interaction Designer to join a fast-paced digital delivery team working on an important public sector service. This is an exciting opportunity for a confident and self-sufficient designer who can take ownership of interaction design and prototyping activity within a multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will be the lead specialist for interaction design and will play a key role in shaping user journeys, developing prototypes and translating research insights into effective service improvements.

What You’ll Be Doing

Working closely with Service Design, User Research and Product Management colleagues, you will:

  • Design intuitive user journeys and interactions based on user needs and evidence
  • Create and iterate prototypes using the GOV.UK Prototype Kit
  • Prepare and support usability testing activities, including scenarios, journeys and prototypes
  • Analyse user research findings and feedback to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Translate insights into clear, actionable design recommendations
  • Help define design priorities, requirements and next steps
  • Confidently make and communicate design decisions
  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team while maintaining ownership of interaction design outputs

Requirements

  • Strong experience working as a Senior Interaction Designer
  • Expert-level experience with the GOV.UK Prototype Kit (mandatory)
  • Extensive interaction design and prototyping experience
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating relevant digital service design work
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of design decisions
  • Experience delivering within fast-paced, agile environments
  • Excellent collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable Experience

  • Experience delivering digital services within UK Government or the wider public sector
  • Experience working in Alpha phases of service delivery
  • Knowledge of justice, youth services or related domains, * Active SC Clearance
  • Strong GOV.UK Prototype Kit experience
  • Senior-level interaction design capability
  • A portfolio showcasing relevant prototyping and interaction design work
