backend Java Developer

We are seeking a senior backend Java Developer to help drive product development and modernization for a core platform team supporting critical business operations. This hybrid role is based in Menlo Park, CA, with onsite work required three or more days per week and offers the opportunity to build scalable, high-impact solutions in a fast-paced engineering environment. Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance backend components and services that support new products and feature delivery
• Participate in technical discussions, whiteboarding sessions, and design reviews to shape solution direction
• Build and maintain microservices-based applications with a focus on scalability, performance, and reliability
• Collaborate closely with engineering peers to deliver work in a fast-moving, iterative environment
• Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to code quality through testing and automation best practices
• Support interface design and data exchange between system modules
• Assist with build, release, and deployment processes while maintaining strong engineering standards
• Help improve application performance through thoughtful design and implementation choices

• Strong experience with Java and the Spring Framework
• Background in microservices development
• Experience working with relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Sybase
• Ability to build highly scalable and distributed applications
• Solid understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, and software engineering principles
• Experience with agile development practices
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical ideas clearly
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field, or equivalent professional experience
• At least 7 years of relevant professional experience, or 5 years with a master’s degree, or 2 years with a PhD

Preferred Skills

• Python scripting experience
• Exposure to Go development
• Hands-on experience with AWS or other public cloud services
• Experience with Kubernetes, containers, or service mesh technologies
• Experience building cloud-based software using open source frameworks and tools
• Knowledge of performance tuning and application optimization
• Ability to work effectively with global teams and adapt to shifting priorities
• Curiosity for learning new technologies and contributing to business outcomes
