- Risk Assessment: Conduct cybersecurity risk assessments of industrial control systems (ICS) networks, systems, and components to identify vulnerabilities and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Policies & Controls: Develop and implement cybersecurity policies, procedures, and technical controls to reduce risk and strengthen system resilience.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations such as NIST, ISA/IEC 62443, and IEC 61850.
- Security Solutions: Design, configure, and implement protective technologies including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDPS), and SIEM platforms to defend against cyber threats.
- Testing & Validation: Conduct penetration testing and vulnerability assessments of ICS environments to identify weaknesses and implement timely remediation.
- Training & Guidance: Provide training and technical guidance to engineers and operators on cybersecurity best practices to improve awareness and compliance.
- Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to embed cybersecurity into the design, development, and deployment of new ICS systems and components.
- Incident Response: Participate in incident response activities, analyzing and mitigating threats to quickly restore secure and stable operations.
Requirements
Smithfield Foods is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Cybersecurity Engineer to support critical programs and strategic initiatives across the organization. In this role, you will assess, design, and maintain cybersecurity systems that protect the company’s infrastructure, applications, and data. You will collaborate with IT, engineering, and business teams to strengthen Smithfield’s security posture, reduce risk, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards., To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 2+ years of relevant experience in OT cybersecurity, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Cloud Security: Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and AWS cloud security, including deployment, monitoring, and protection technologies.
- Endpoint & Email Protection: Proven expertise in endpoint protection solutions, advanced email threat protection, and forensic investigation/remediation.
- Identity & Access Management: Strong background in Windows Active Directory security and administration.
- Application & Network Security: Experience managing Web Application Firewalls (WAF) and implementing network-level protections against evolving cyber threats.
- Data Analysis: Skilled in analyzing and interpreting log data using security analytics tools to detect and respond to potential incidents.
- Collaboration & Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex security concepts for technical and non-technical audiences.

- The majority of the time is spent in an office setting outside of the production plant. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.

- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.

- Frequently required to sit; stand; reach with hands and arms; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear.

- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
The expected pay range for this position is $85,000 - $120,000 annually.
Smithfield Foods provides pay ranges that reflect its good faith estimate of thesalary or hourly wagethe company reasonably expects to pay for a positionat the time of hire. Individual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, location of the position, the candidate’s qualifications and experience, internal equity, external market pay for comparable positions and budget considerations.
