Job description

The appointee will be responsible for monitoring the operations of central IT systems and the campus network to ensure safe operation and provision of normal services; coordinating the installations of network infrastructure, cabling and IT closets; backup job status monitoring, carrying out production change release and other scheduled operational tasks; system performance reporting; equipment life-cycle and inventory management; answering users’ enquiries; and incident tracking and escalation. This position may require working on shifts that may include weekends and public holidays.

Requirements

Applicants should possess a Higher Diploma in Information Technology (IT) or a related discipline, and at least one year of relevant post-qualification experience in data centre and enterprise IT systems/network infrastructure operations.

Applicants should have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; good communication, analytical and problem-solving skills; and proven ability to execute multiple operational jobs independently and in a team environment according to prescribed guidelines. They should also have solid knowledge and experience in at least two of the following areas:

  • Installation of IT closets and network cabling infrastructure

  • Cooling, electricity supply distribution and protection, fire and other physical/environmental risk protection for IT closets and data centres

  • UPS installation and operations

  • LAN/WiFi/WAN technologies

  • Network equipment configuration and installation

  • Data centre equipment/systems troubleshooting methods and techniques

  • Data centre management and monitoring systems

Those with the following qualifications, knowledge or experience are preferred:

  • Registered grade A electrical worker

  • Hot /cold aisle design and planning of data rack installation

  • EMSD policies, building code regulations and rules

  • Safety protocols and regulations

Benefits & conditions

The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years and commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
