Sample Tasks

Setup development environment with appropriate access and tools.

Fetch source COBOL code out of source code control.

Identify and implement database changes required to meet business needs.

Identify logic changes required to meet business needs. This may include reading and interpreting government technical requirements.

Write code to implement needed new logic.

Compile and unit test code changes.

Promote code from development to test and from test to production.

Triage and fix any reported defects from unit and quality testing.

Create guides and diagrams to document completed work.

Engage in peer code reviews.

Provide knowledge transfer

Requirements

Do you have experience in Database software proficiency?, 5 years experience programming in COBOL and/or Micro Focus COBOL for relational databases

Preferred Qualifications

Technical skills sufficient to build and deploy secure, robust applications that meet business requirements.

COBOL and/or Micro Focus COBOL

Linux

Oracle SQL - to create test data and script database changes

Relational databases e.g. Oracle

Source code repositories e.g. GitHub

SFTP file transfer

Documentation skills sufficient to produce technical specs, program maintenance guides, data flow diagrams and flow charts as needed to document work so others can support it in production.

Communication skills sufficient to understand business needs and functional requirements and coordinate any related work by the same or another team.

Presentation skills sufficient to demonstrate completed code to peer programmers.

Experience working independently and collaboratively with a geographically dispersed team.

Experience working in an Agile development environment with SCRUM processes.

Experience with code deployment processes.

Experience with the JAMS job scheduling tool.

Experience with Azure Boards.
