Job description

We are seeking a Mid-Level Backend Java Engineer to join a highly visible Commerce Platform team responsible for supporting and enhancing critical order management and order visibility applications. This team maintains the foundational architecture that powers internal communication and order processing across approximately 40 applications.

This is an excellent opportunity for a strong backend engineer who enjoys solving complex architectural challenges, building scalable microservices, and working within a modern cloud-native environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and enhance backend microservices from scratch using Java
  • Build reusable components and services that support enterprise-scale applications
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and platform issues
  • Contribute to ongoing enhancements
  • Integrate applications with Cassandra and other distributed data systems
  • Support cloud migration initiatives from PCF to Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)
  • Assist with platform optimization and service consolidation efforts
  • Participate in security remediation and modernization projects
  • Collaborate with Staff Engineers and senior team members on architecture-related challenges
  • Work with messaging technologies to support real-time data movement and communication between services

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of backend software engineering experience
  • Strong experience developing applications in Java (Java 8+ currently on Java 17)
  • Proven experience building microservices from the ground up
  • Experience working with NoSQL databases o Cassandra (preferred)Elasticsearch, or GraphQL

  • Cloud experience (GCP preferred, but any cloud experience is excepted)
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working in large-scale distributed systems environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience deploying and supporting applications in Kubernetes
  • Experience with Kafka, Google Pub/Sub, or similar messaging platforms
  • Experience supporting cloud migration initiatives
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to improve software development workflows

Benefits & conditions

$49/hr to $53/hr. - Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching.
