Leidos, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented \nMechanical Engineer / Metrology Engineer to support the development of a Thermal Protection System (TPS) as part of the nation’s leading Hypersonic Production Program. This program is conducted within the Leidos Defense Systems Advanced Materials Department. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions. \n, The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with GOM/Zeiss optical scanning systems and a strong background in blue light scanning, photogrammetry, and digital assembly creation. This role requires expertise in GD&T, manufacturing processes, and the ability to develop and implement inspection workflows and integration processes for complex mechanical assemblies. \n, * Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent work experience with 4 - 8 years of prior relevant experience, or Masters with 2 - 6 years of prior relevant experience, in the optical metrology, blue light scanning, and photogrammetry of hardware. \n
- Hands-on experience with GOM/Zeiss optical scanning systems (e.g., ATOS) \n
- Proficiency in processing 3D data and creating digital assemblies \n
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards \n
- Experience with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software \n
- Manufacturing environment experience with precision metrology and production support \n, * Active security clearance at SECRET or above (preferred)\n
- Experience in hypersonic or aerospace manufacturing environments\n
- Proficiency GOM/Zeiss inspect\n
- Experience developing automation scan routines and robotic scanning workflows\n
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret high-resolution 3D data\n
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present findings to customers and upper management\n
- Ability to thrive in high-stress, dynamic, and fast-paced environments\n
- Experience in an AS9100 production environment\n
