Job description
Most engineering roles ask you to build one system well. This one asks a harder question: how do a dozen systems, built by different people at different times, behave as one? A multinational defence organisation needs a systems engineer for exactly that problem, in the air command and control domain.
You would work across the full lifecycle - from requirements and traceability, through technical baselines and interface management, to integration planning and the verification strategy that proves it all holds together. It is a role for someone who is comfortable with structured engineering practice and equally comfortable asking whether the end user can actually work with the result.
What you would be doing
- System-of-systems engineering and lifecycle management.
- Requirements engineering and traceability, using structured tooling such as DOORS or equivalent.
- Technical baseline and interface management.
- Integration planning and development of the verification strategy.
- Applying operational domain knowledge, particularly air command and control, federated mission operations and how the wider organisation is put together.
- Human factors, usability analysis and user journey assessment - making sure the capability is usable, not merely compliant.
Requirements
- A BSc from a recognised university in a technical subject with substantial IT content, plus three years of relevant experience - or, in place of the degree, at least five years of extensive and progressive experience in this kind of work.
- Real system-of-systems and requirements engineering practice, with structured tooling.
- Experience of technical baselines, interfaces and integration verification.
- Desirable: prior work in an international environment of both military and civilian staff, and knowledge of how such an organisation is structured.
Benefits & conditions
The work is full time on site in The Hague, the Netherlands, from early September to the end of December 2026.
