Configuration Engineer

Insight Global is seeking a Configuration Engineer to join their client in Schenectady, NY. This individual will be responsible for creating, managing, and maintaining project structures and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for Steam Turbine and Generator new unit requisitions as well as Conversion, Modification, and Uprate projects. The role serves as a key liaison between engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure accurate product configuration, BOM integrity, and successful execution throughout the project lifecycle. The annual salary is $67,000/year., * Create and maintain Engineering BOMs, Unit BOMs, and Manufacturing BOMs throughout the project lifecycle

• Manage project structures for Steam Turbine and Generator new unit requisitions and CMU projects
• Support the transition of project scope from Inquiry to Order through Order to Remittance processes
• Collaborate with Project Engineering to ensure timely handoff and maintenance of scope definitions within PLM systems
• Validate configuration features and Variant Configuration Central logic and resolve discrepancies
• Participate in Preliminary Bill of Materials review meetings
• Verify standard part selection through GBOM rules and support Configure-to-Order initiatives
• Assist manufacturing and sourcing teams with BOM accuracy, integrity monitoring, and issue resolution
• Execute configuration management responsibilities within established change management processes
• Partner cross-functionally with Sourcing, Manufacturing, Project Engineering, and Design Engineering teams
• Drive continuous improvement and Lean initiatives across the organization

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related technical field
• Experience with product definition development and configuration management processes
• Bill of Materials (BOM) management experience
• Understanding of engineering change management and project lifecycle processes
• Experience working with engineering, manufacturing, or supply chain functions
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple technical teams

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Product Lifecycle Management system experience
• ERP system experience (PowerMax or comparable platforms)
• Experience supporting Steam Turbine, Generator, or power generation equipment projects
• Knowledge of Engineering BOM and Manufacturing BOM structures
• Exposure to Configure-to-Order environments
• Experience with Lean and continuous improvement initiatives
• Demonstrated ability to implement new tools and processes
• Strong integrity and commitment to quality and compliance standards
