Job description
- The Engineer,Data Governance is an early-career role for someone who is curious about data how it’s organized, understood, and trusted at enterprise scale and wants to develop deep technical expertise across a unique blend of platform administration, data engineering, and automation.
- You’ll serve as a hands-on administrator for Client’s Data Governance platform ecosystem including Collibra, Ataccama, OpenMetadata, and Securiti.ai while supporting data stewardship activities like metadata collection, data quality, and lineage, and building automations and AI-assisted workflows that help scale governance across the enterprise.
- Platform administration is a core part of this role, not a secondary one.
- You will own day-to-day admin responsibilities across governance tools, develop deep configuration expertise, and be the go-to person for keeping these platforms healthy, well-configured, and aligned with the evolving needs of the governance program.
- This hands-on ownership is paired with engineering work you’ll be expected to get into code, dig into systems, and develop fluency with Client’s data platforms (Databricks, Unity Catalog, Azure, Microsoft Fabric, DBT) as you grow in the role.
- Deep governance platform experience is not expected on day one; what matters is technical aptitude, data literacy, strong SQL fundamentals, attention to detail, and a genuine desire to become an expert in a domain that sits at the heart of how Client understands and governs its data.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
- 0 2 years of professional experience in data engineering, software engineering, data analytics, systems administration, or a related technical discipline including internships and co-ops.
- Demonstrated technical aptitude through coursework, projects, or work experience involving data, SQL, software development, or system administration.
Technical Skills
- Solid SQL proficiency able to write queries to retrieve, filter, join, and aggregate data; experience with stored procedures or complex query patterns is a plus.
- Working Python proficiency comfortable writing scripts for data processing, API calls, and task automation.
- Familiarity with REST API concepts able to read API documentation and make basic authenticated requests.
- Basic understanding of data concepts: schemas, data types, relational databases, ETL/ELT, and cloud data storage.
- Exposure to cloud data platforms (Azure, Databricks, Snowflake) or data transformation tools (DBT) is a plus; willingness to learn these environments hands-on is required.
Must Have Skills
- Solid SQL proficiency for querying and working with data in relational and cloud-native data stores
- Working Python proficiency for scripting, data processing, and automation
- Basic REST API familiarity able to read documentation and make authenticated requests
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills comfortable digging into unfamiliar code, logs, and systems
- Attention to detail and process discipline suitable for platform administration and configuration management
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Hands-on experience with AI productivity tools (Claude and Cursor or similar IDE)
- Genuine curiosity about data governance and willingness to develop deep platform administration and engineering expertise
